Had a lovely time in southern France last year but the journey was pretty grim with three small children. This year we would like to be much further north, Normandy in fact! We're looking for a site with a pool, basic shop, decent sized pitches and pleasant surroundings. Anyone got any ideas?

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

We spent the best part a week at the Chateau de Martragny, well placed for if you want to view the landing beaches (our reason for going there).
We pitched on the driveway up to the chateau, rather than on the pitches inside the walls, so had a lovely spacious pitch - until a dutch rally turned up and double parked caravans in every single pitch (so we had two caravans, double-parked front-to-back, on either side of us!). It was okay, as we only had a couple of days left there, and everyone was very nice, though it did feel a bit claustrophobic!
Maybe best enquire if they have any huge rally parties booked in for the time you hope to visit? Otherwise, this is a nice and conveniently located site.
I`ll second Chateau Martragny...we end up there almost every time we go to Normandy, because Hubby likes all the WW2 stuff round there. Nice big pitches, especially on the avenue, but you might not want to be put there with three small kids. The orchard is nice, and close to the pool and toilet block. If you have a giant tent you won`t fit on the smaller pitches there though. The pitches do vary quite considerably in size over the site.
There is a pool (no flumes though), kids club, vast games area, a nice little shop and a bar that serves basic meals. The family are extremely friendly and can`t do enough for you. We spent two weeks of our extended holiday there last year...we got put on the very imposing corner pitch at the turn of the avenue so had a fabulous view of everything. Best pitch on the site!
