Off again to Dordogne in August and wondering if others go via Paris or avoid it?  last year did very well with the directions through AA routefinder, got to campsite at tea time (live v close to Dover so could get early early ferry!!!) but is there a better way?  Came back via Blois on A roads and would not repeat that, far too fiddly!!! Yes the Toll roads are exensive, but saves on patience!!!

Any suggestions greatly listened to!

R

Hey!

Thanks for that, how long does this take you?  We came back via the non toll roads and found it frustrating as many of them are single lane and you get stuck behind a lorry, thats its!!!  We are on the 6am ferry, into Calais at 8.30am so really want to be down there in time for pizza, beer in the bar and still time to put up the tent!

Thanks!

If you use www.mappy.com and stipulate via Rouen to match the above route, it will give you a time based on the speed limits for the different roads but without breaks or holdups. We did that route to the Lot region last year and it took us approx 11hours with breaks. We were further south than the Dordogne though.

We're heading down to the Tarn and can't decide between the Rouen/Evreux/Chartres/Orleans route detailed above and the Senlis - Paris - Evry  A140 (Francilienne) route.  The one I wold avoid is the inner PAris route - A3 I think via Creteuil as it took us forever last year!  Both these routes come up as similar time/tolls/distance on mappy.com.  Both come recommended by folks on this site too .... Need to decide as we'll book our stop over.

The Francilienne route around Paris is no problem at the moment - and for the remainder of this year - but it it being 'upgraded' over the winter - and this may lead to problems.  Howvever, the French are much better at getting things finished than we are so next year you pays your money and takes your choice!  We love the Francilienne and have never had problems.

Thats great advice, thanks for that.  It only took us about 8hrs last year, and am wary  of the A roads as really want to get down in a day.  Thanks!!!!
