We're off to France at the end of August for 2 weeks - for the 1st time with children. Can anyone recommend a quiet site? Our children are aged 7, 5, 2 & 1 and althought the older two can manage later nights, the younger two get pretty crabby when tired, so we're after a site without too much evening entertainment etc. We going through the tunnel, and don't want too much of a drive, so not much further south than the Loire area. Can anyone help??? Le Chant d'Oiseau looks perfect ... except for the fact they are full !
Cheers, Sarah

I suppose it depends on your definition of quiet. ;-) If you don't want lots of loud entertainment or noisy teenagers then heading to the Loire is probably very sensible - though many sites have entertainment evenings and at that time of year it might be on most nights. Even so, if you can get a pitch well away from the reception/entertainment area it may be quite quiet ..........
This answers all your requirements. Peaceful evenings, unless you want to go up to the bar. Pools and walks around the area - not too far from shops( 10mins in car)

Try here I don't know if they have any vacancies but it's a lovely site and Stuart & Jo are very helpful.

Now that's what I would call a 'quiet' campsite! Beautiful! I could just sit there in the evening sun, with a glass of wine and a good book. Sadly, my kids want a bit more activity .......... but once they are off my hands ....
we stayed at Les Embruns, big site - popular - but beautifully kept lovely gardens and very smart loos; and the family who run it are very helpful. i would recommend it everytime. http://www.camping-les-embruns.com/

we like the site at Amboise. It's on an island in the river. Very quiet site - if you camp away from the shower blocks near the riverbank. You can stroll into town for your provisions so car not really needed, and the only swimming pool in amboise is on the island.
