Nice site, normal loos,a really good all round site with a pleasant atmosphere in bar and terrace area.Good pools and a few play areas to keep kids amused. Also reasonably priced restaurant. The older part of site which is the same side as reception has a lot more shade.

Hi

We went to this site last August (1st time in France too!) We had a fab time, the site is on both sides of the road connected by a underpass. The reception and bar area are by the entrance with the older more traditional pool then the newer pool with the water slides and indoor pool are on the other side of the road. The slides went down a storm with my kids aged 6 & 9 at the time and they loved the indoor pool it was a refreshing break from the heat. The toilet blocks on this side were  fine cleaned daily seperate showers (approx12) seperate washing cubicles and definately seperate ladies and gents!! There is no chemical disposal point a toilet is set aside for this in the ladies!!! however our OH's just took it to the gents and emptied down a loo. The pitches are quite large all hedged off and all have water and drain on pitch the EHU took both types of adaptor ours and two pin. The beach is lovely but quite a trek through the pine forest which is nice but kids found it a bit far there are plenty of car parks though if you want to be idle and drive to beach, St Jean old town is nice with a good weekly market but likewise St Jean newer bit along the sea front has one street Ave De La Mer that comes alive at night and is a must visit again though you need to drive to the town. I agree with previous posting the meals in the restaurant were quite reasonable they did a set menu starter and main or starter and dessert for about 12 euros. They have a good take-away too. I hope this answers some of your queries anything else just ask. We did come across holes in the ground on the aires by the way but there was a choice of normal loos too!!!!

Have a good time, we are trying southern Brittany this year.

Hiya

Nice to read such positive reviews - and to see that a 6 and 9yrs old could enjoy the slides. Our canvas campsite guide says the slides are for 'over 8's' whereas the brochure says age 3-8 supervised which is why I chose the site as my kids are 5 and 7. Not too worried though as the 5yrs old is taller than most 7's and the 7 yrs old looks 9 or 10 - so we will just have to tell them to fib about their ages if there is a problem.

Hi  Christine

Don't worry you won't have a problem with the kids and the slides there are lifeguards on duty at both the pools and they are pretty vigilant but I never saw then query anyones age they just picked up on things like if the kids didn't exit the pool properly and tried to climb through the ropes either side of the slide pool rather than go up the steps!! We went with friends and the kids ages were 4,6,7,9,10 and they all had a fab time the 4 year old went down the slides with dad but the others managed fine on there own. If you need anymore information just ask. Also have you visited their own website? www.amiaux.fr

Have a fab holiday I'm sure you will we did

Hi

Went to this campsite two years ago. Pitches were large although some didn't have much grass. We were literally 30 secs away from the pool, ideal. Outdoor and indoor pool brilliant. The on site shop well stocked. Beach 10 min drive away, superb.

Have a good one.

Just come back from this site a couple of days ago. Good pitches, good facilities I echo everything that has been said so far.

The only grumble we had was with the indoor pool which was supervised but became, in our opinion, quite dangerous when busy. The rules about no jumping, no diving , no pushing etc are all plainly displayed but all of them were being ignored and the lifeguards seemed quite happy to let this behaviour continue without controlling it. As we have a 5 and 7 yr old still trying to gain confidence in the water we felt that this was quite dangerous for them. Apart from them, Im a big chap and a strong swimmer and nothing really phases me but I forget how many times I was hit by a ball or nearly landed on by some youth flying in from the side of the pool! I would be very surprised if someone didnt get injured on a regular basis at this place. Maybe it was overly busy because of the couple of days poor weather we suffered but I think that rules are there for a purpose, safety being the primary factor. Had a bloody good laugh on the water slides though!

We were at les amiaux from 1st - 10th August and I wasn't particularly happy with it - but I think that was mainly down to our location on the site.

We went with Canvas in a tent - which meant no choice of pitch - the Canvas tents are pitched at the far side of the 'older' reception side of the site - and right beneath the busy 'back road'... it was like living in a layby - cars and heavy lorries from 5am till 2am... and a 10ft breeze block wall right in front of the road to act as a great big loudspeaker.   The pitches are sandy at that point of the site - it was very upsetting to realise that almost everywhere else on the site they were 'large grassy emplacements' as promised in the brochure.

Our particular emplacment was large - so why was our tent pitched within 2ft of a mobile home?  every footstep reverberated and the toilet fan created an incessant hum...luckily the people who lived in it offered to switch it off!

The Canvas tents on the row behind us (which appeared to have been squeezed in) were pitched side-on to ours - at all other sites we have been to the tents have been 'back to back' - so you have quite a distance between people sitting outside their tents talking and your own tent - in this case we had the people behind us chatting till 1am directly behind the kids bedroom.

The toilets were very smelly - they had a nominal clean twice a day, but because no toilet paper is provided we found them quite often covered in wee and on 2 occasions smeared with excrement - nice!  of course it isn't the campsites fault that we happened to be sharing with manky b&strds that week!

Thats the bad news, the good news is that the shop and restaurant were reasonably priced, the pools (although at first I thought didn't look it) were clean, and the slides looked excellent - the day my kids tried them was cold and it put them off trying again.  The indoor pool was fantastic and there were always enough chairs/sunbeds even on the really hot days at all 3 pools.

The beach was glorious - but it took us ages to find it,and even though our tent was within spitting distance of the road running along it we had to walk right back to main reception and then out again as the gate from the back of the site has been closed so it was a fair trek - after the first attempt we drove to the beach.  We cycled to both Jean de Monts and Notre Dame de Monts and both were lovely bike rides.

There is loads to do in the area, we visited the causeway at Nourmoutier, a working windmill, and the highlight was a mediavel banquet on the 6th August (this is an annual thing).

So - if you have the choice of where to be located, definitely opt for the 'new' side of the site - it looked lovely! but be as far away as possible from the road running through the site because that is also pretty noisy - dh thought it was noisier than 'our' road - but I thought it was a more constant hum so might have been less annoying.  If you are in a caravan it probably doesn't matter either way.

Christine

Been to this site twice before and booked again for this year. We prefer the plots through the underpass where there is less shade and the plots are flat and very spacious. Excellant facilities for all ages and very clean tolilet blocks dotted around the site. Also a good idea to visit close by Saint jean de monts both old and new towns offer very nice shops and resturants, or eating local to the site is also a good option. Local supermarkets make it a cheap way to eat and drink around your own caravan and there are always things happening for the teenage kids in and around the site.Hope you enjoy

Alan Phill - I think the original poster will have long since been and come back - the original post is from 2006 and the last reply before yours was in 2008!!  Still, it's nice to have some up to date information for anyone else who's thinking about going.
