Hiya, I remember some peeps were going to Filature this last fortnight and I wondered how you got on. We loved it last year and although we liked the Alps this year I preferred the site in the Auvergne for sure.

We've just come back from Filature, but unfortunately the weather was absolutely horrendous so we left after four days. We had torrential rain and thunderstorms like I've never seen or heard before. The campsite was very nice, although you were right in saying that the sanitary facilities could do with updating, and the food was to die for!
We moved on to Stuart's site at La Touche where the weather was much better and we had a fantastic time.
We did meet Stu and Jacqui at Filature, but they aren't due home for another couple of days, so it will be interesting to see how they got on in the end.
Hi Swizzie! Sorry to hear you had bad weather, boy am I glad we didn't go there now. Having said that, we arrived in the Alps in a really bad storm, so bad we couldn't see the road ahead of us as we drove out of Annecy towards the site!! We also had storms most evenings but it didn't interfere with the hols at all. I am a seasoned austria goer so used to thundery evenings. We stayed in a chalet room the first night because of said storm, but once it had passed over it was a glorious evening and soon dried out.
Glad you had a great time in the end in the Loire.

Hi Swizzie, just out of interest what dates were you at Filature? We arrived in France on the 17th of June and the Alps the following day. Wonder if Stu and Jacqui are back yet?
We arrived on the 18th. Stu and Jacqui arrived the day before we left on the 22nd June, so they were there from the 21st and I believe they intended to stay for 3 weeks.
We managed to have a glass of wine (or two) with them both and had a very enjoyable evening the night before we left. UKCS is definitely a very good icebreaker!
Same day as we would have arrived then, blimey am I glad we went to the Alps instead. We had a huge storm on arrival and others in the evenings but the days were boiling hot and clear skies. I can't imagine Filature in pouring rain for days on end!! You must have been very unlucky. We missed the food though, which is excellent.

I can't say that it was torrential rain for days on end, but it rained several times a day, and very heavily on several occasions. As you know, La Filature has many trees providing very welcome shade in hot weather, I should imagine, but when you have had a lot of rainfall it makes for a very wet, dark site as the trees just constantly drip. It was a great shame, as we had been looking forward to our visit for months and the food was excellent.
To think it was 35 degrees the same fortnight last year Swizzie! This world's climate has gone doo lally I reckon. The last couple of times I have been to Greek Islands in June it has been 40 by mid morning when it shouldn't be anything like that.
We had just two storms in a fortnight there last year, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. The rivers were in fact very low as we canoed down one of them and it was shallow in places. I could eat their food every day and never get bored of it. OH did do some excellent barbies this year though but their meal deal is unbeatable. I think we will go back one day soon.
