Hi

Off to Chateau des Marais in Loire Valley in France in end of August,

Now, initially I as going to stop but have decided to make it a straight dash there. We have 7am crossing via Eurotunnel.

Now, the question I have, whats the best and quickest route. I have been playing with mappy.com and autoroute to no avail. Did look at going via Rouien but still the route goes via Paris at some point.

Anyone been there before with some suggestions.

Scott

Can't help with directions at all but we came back yesterday from Chateau des Marais having spent the last 2 weeks there. It's a great campsite with loads to do - our kids (5 & 3) loved it.

We travelled Portsmouth to Caen so don't know the best way from the tunnel but just make sure when you arrive from Mer into Muides not to miss the campsite at the second crossroads. We did as the sign is very difficult to see. If you reach the crossroads for Chambord, you've gone too far.

We went via Rouen to this site last year no problem with doing it in a day too us about 6 hours with plenty of stops and a little sleep! We too went on the tunnel crossed about 3.00am drove to a aire near Rouen where we had a sleep and breakfast. Reached Chateau des Marais about 2.00pm with lot of other stops for drinks, toilet , fuel etc.

really is not a stressful route at all. I would avoid Paris like the plague!

Is this suggestion for a route any good to you? - I quoted it in answer to someone who is going to Loches, just south of Tours - I find viaMichelin route planner excellent

Not sure exactly where your campsite is but you can now get to loire valley by autoroute all the way to Tours/Angers since new section of A28 motorway opened between Rouen and Alencon.

Quote :- "Try putting your route into viamichelin, it recommends the route we usually take down to the Loire (but includes new section of A83 autoroute from Rouen to Le Mans)

Route is Calais to Rouen A16 then A28 (Rouen is now pretty easy to get through) new bit of A28 to Alencon, then "old" bit of A28 all the way to Tours. Then N143 to Loches.

via Michelin says it is 350 miles via Rouen, Le Mans to Chambord from chunnel,  that's a fair bit further  than route via Evreux and Dreux suggested above - but it is nearly all autoroute, depends whether you prefer that - not sure it would save any time though because of extra distance- don't forget cost of tolls also - about 35 euros?
