Does anyone know of an INEXPENSIVE campsite within 1 hour from calais please. The ones we found seem to be really expensive, we are docking around 4.15pm and we need an overnighter while on our way down to Sete in the South of France.  Does anybody recommend a route down that avoids Paris and we are going to take three days to get down to South

Hi. We stayed at La Source near Dieppe in March on the way back from Spain http://www.camping-la-source.fr/  Nice facilities and area , friendly owners and convenient to get around.

If you use Camping Cheques works out at £10.30 per night with electrics. They can be used after 16th August

Hi, the best route we have found is the auto routes from calais to reims, reims to troyes , troyes to dijon, dijon to lyon, lyon to orange, orange to montpellier, montpellier to sete.I hope this help you . It costs about 70 euros for car only on the auto routes. It takes about 12 hours if you are thinking of doing the journey in one go.

A couple of campsites that we have used when going that way Manoir de Senlecques near Boulogne and Val d'Authie at Villers sur Authie just off the N1 near Rue. Both around £10 (€15) per night.

Chateau du Gandspette just about 30 minutes from Calais. Just off the Autoroute south by about 10 minutes.

Route around Paris? Not without going many miles out of your way. Periphique is not as intimidating as people would have you believe. Just make absolutely sure you know your route and your exit "port" before getting on it and you'll be fine. Try to avoid the Parisienne rush hours.

French drivers are far more tolerant of caravanners than drivers here and they do drive quite fast so keep a level head, concentrate and make sure you have a competant map reader beside you.

Have fun.............

Vic

I found a site at Gravelines in the ACSI guide. Basic but cheap. Me and my van and EHU was 6 euros.

This included an ACSI discount when I showed the book.

(the book was £5 from Aldi!)

What do you mean by cheap? Bien Assise 10 kms from the port is great has a little restaurant on site if you are arriving at that time it would be ideal. Don't think it will be 6 euros though!!!

We stay there most years for a last night stop-over before the ferry home. New owners took over last year. There is an all new shower block as well as a snack-bar in high season.

Only 20 mins to ferry port and there are supermarkets nearby.
