Well it is almost time for us to head off for the Haute Marne and the wonder site at La Forge. Sailing from Hull to Zeebrugge on Saturday (great deal on cabin and caravan and just cannot wait. Anyone else sailing with us or heading to la Forge?)

Super site - but take very great care with the entrance. Once you are through the gateway, you should have a brilliant time!

Its actually our second year there so know about the entrance and what to expect. As you say though its a smashing site with great facilities and excellent staff. We plan to do a wee bit more exploring the region this time - take in more of the places we didn't get to last year. Anyone been to Nancy? or the horse racing or spa at Vittel?

Hi Ecclesman

We are heading there on the 30th July  our first night on site will be 31st July. We are going Hull /Zebbrugge too for the first time ( even though we only live 20 mins from the terminal!) I just can't wait!!! Have you any tips regarding the site? Do they allocate you a pitch or can you choose? where are the best pitches we have quite a long van and would prefer a large pitch away from the entertainmant /play area near the lake would be noce but perhaps that is hoping too much! It is our Silver Wedding holiday so I am looking forward to relaxing, cycling and drinking lots of champagne and having lots of "early nights"

Its not really champagne country - but you can buy it of course. Entertainment is not really noisy and doesn't go on late. It is a very quiet site. You get allocated a pitch. We have the largest pitch on the site pitch H (they tend to use that for larger parties max 6) down by the river. It isn't really a lake, very small but idyllic none the less. All pitches are a reasonable size. The site has a number of levels, ours is bottom level, well shaded with trees but plenty of sunshine. As an English party you will; prpbably be allocated there anyway - I think they call it English Alley. A Misnomer reeally as there were Scots french dutch germans etc there too. It is handy for the pool, shop, restaurant and play area. Toilets/showers are up the short hill but not far away at all. The only slight issue is you have to take your chemical waste up that short hill to dispose of it - take a run up lol. Do not miss the farmyard BBQ. If you can get to Troyes go it is lovely. The Amphiteatre at Grand is fascinating. Surrounding roads are quit for cycling. We are going to do some of the towpath on the Marne from Joinville north and south. Horse racing at Vittel every Sunday - maybe even more regular in August. The closest supermarket is in Joinville so just a ten minute drive really and there is also a Lidl a litle further along. Nearest Hypermarket St Dizier and they do excellent Pizzas in the restaurant there. Oh and you can do the 45k circuit of - very easy and you can do it on a road bike! Hope that helps.

Thats the one, I did it with my then 12 yo son, It is a complete circuit. We did it almost continuously on a scorching hot day - had a little rain for good measure. Took us just over four hours - but we did take time to take in views have a drink etc.

There are beaches and bars/restaurants on way round. A few mozzies under trees but you just go faster then lol

Sunflower fields were in full bloom - it was a great afternoon early evening for us.

There are other tracks we plan to explore down around langres they sound interesting.

Are you on your own or with kids?

We are on our own for the first time ever! Our nearly 18 year old daughter is in the Lot Valley at the moment with some friends after finishng AS levels. She comes home 4 days before we go. This holiday is a real treat to ourselves a we have just celebrate our 25th wedding anniverary we are having a week at La Forge before going on to Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland for another week. We are keen cyclists so your mention of the towpath on the Marne is interesting. I am a bit of a soft cyclist I don't do wind or hills!!
