My family always went to Cavalaire Sur Mer. Great place and 2 good camp sites, I think they are Camping de la baie and Camping la Pinede. There are also some nice sites just outside Cavalaire and one with a big pool and near a beautiful little beach, but can't remember it's name.

Good luck

We're just back from Frejus, weather was fab again this year and although last year in Perpignan we had windy weather, this year we had 3 days of the Mistral winds. When we got to the site we couldn't get a peg in the ground as it was so dry, so hubby had to buy some different pegs and we got about half our tent pegged out. When the Mistral winds came it was a case of 'hold onto your tent'! I seriously thought we'd be flying through the air like one giant kite!! After the 3rd (and by far the worst) day of Mistral winds all was well again. A lovely part of the country and a nice site but we like to try somewhere different every year.

Until about 10 days ago we had the canicule down here, which means night temperatures of up to 30°C.
Since then the tramontane has been blowing most of the time and mistral east of the Rhone.
Autumn seems to have come early this year but it could change any day.
We used to love Port Grimaud just over 30 years ago and used to do day charter with our sailing boat moored just in front of the church. Three years ago they wouldn't even let us enter the harbour to stay overnight.   Nothing stays the same does it?   I even borrowed a scooter to take my wife to the station at St. Raphael.   I wouldn't like to try it now.

We love Languedoc but have been caught up in the mistral and experienced heavy rain, lightening and flooding! We were told that this is expected every summer and lasts around 3-4 days. This occured mainly at night and didn't affect our day time at all.The rest of the holiday was fantastic - hot weather, gorgeous beaches and wonderful places to visit inland. I'd go back very year if it weren't for the fact I can't drive and OH needs a year to get over the long haul! Claire

We'll the New Year is almost upon us and we wish you all well for 2007 and beyond! As the Turkey has almost gone and there are only a few beers left in the fridge it's probably time to start planning the summer vacation - this year we fancy France and that's why I have tagged on this thread rather than start a new!

So here goes, we would like to go down to the South of France this year (2007), adjacent to a sandy beach, in our a motor home. Many of you are talking about Port Grimaud, is there a specific web site for this camp site, does it cater for motor homes?

Is there any companies, web sites that allow us to compile a complete package i.e. Ferry, Trip Itinerary, such as overnight stay on route, etc...? Not that I'm lazy, it would give us a comparison of costs against doing it all ourselves if you see what I mean.

Once again many thanks for your help and have a great New Year

Griswolds (interesting name!!!)

What exactly do you mean by cater for motorhomes? I have never seen a site that does not have motorhomes. The only thing you have to watch in the South of France is that some of the pitches can be sandy which makes it difficult for a heavy vehicle to get on and off the pitches. The area around Port Grimaud should be OK as the sand consists of a degree of shale which makes the pitches firmer. There are quite a few campsites along the south coast of France that have access to the beach. Please feel free to e-mail me for info on he sites I have visited.
