If you're going to france and don't mind going as far south as the Dordogne, this campsite is great. We've been back there many times. The toilet / shower facilities are plentiful and spotless. Great swimming pool but being on the banks of the Dordogne, we usually swim in the river. Canoing is fantastic in this area. Pitches are mostly generous. This area is absolutely beautiful - loads of places of interest to visit. We started going here when my children were toddlers, they're 16 and 18 now and still asking to go back.

Agree - This year will be our 4th year there - now with kids 12 and 14. Its a great location for kids of all ages and whilst the pool complex is good for teh area it does not compare to teh big coastal sites but it is right next to ine of the best spots on one of the best rivers - don't forget your snorkel and mask!!
We are booked on this site for two weeks in August.
Can you tell me please whether it is worth us taking a small inflatable dinghy for the kids to play in. Would we need to take life jackets with us or is it a safe enough area to not take them? We wouldn't be going any distance, just playing on the river beach area.
Also can you tell me please if there is a problem with insects eg. midges , being so close to water?
Take the inflatable. We have a dinghy and a couple of tyres, the kids love them. Current is quite strong mid river so good idea to have little kids in jackets if they go out that far in dinghy. Never had a problem with insects. Have taken candles and stuff just incase but never had to use. Last time we were there had a cicada sharing our plot which could be quite noisy at times - an education though, I've never seen one before.
Sure you'll have a great time. Wish we were going too but can't afford it as just bought a new caravan - of to Burnham on Sea instead. Have fun.

- unless you use the busier sand beach
Insects not a problem the last 3 years
Inflatable toys very good fun - life jackets not important if the kids are confident for 30m in water - or can float. If you bathe above the shallows the kids will wash up before they could drown.

Posting from WiFi at the bar at Soleil Plage having just taken an option on a 6th visit - I'll tell you why we like it when we return to UK. Like every site it's not for everyone but it certainly is a site we will look forward to revisiting.
Liz, I have submitted a review. I guess it will be a while before it gets through. I have 'an option' to return next year subject to T&C/prices released in November. Soleil Plage was the Dutch 'Top French Campsite' last year and is nominated for top european campsite this year so don't expect long to make up your mind if you want to go.

okey doke, thanks! It looks scrummy. My son's friend went there this year and the parents recommended it. we've got other ideas for next year, so I'm just "window shopping" for now. I suspect we'll have at least another week at Les Peupliers, near Poitiers next year as the pool is just the best we have found.
