I know this is probably often asked but which is the best tour operator to use for hiring static caravans in France? I;ve got the eurocamp/keycamp etc brochures but they seem quite difficult to decipher - why can't they just give the prices in plain english?!!!!!!!

Select Sites also offer static type facilities on some sites. They are also by far the most human and patient and will explain anything you need to know.

Select sites are very helpful, and I think that keycamp is simply the upmarket version of eurocamp, I have heard that French Life are very good for chalets rather than statics.

Canvas for me. Smaller, friendlier company. Never had a problem with them and very efficient.

Nevery used them, but have heard lots of good reports about Canvas. Mind you, I just looked at prices for 10 days in a mobile home near Royan and it woudl be nearly £2000 in school holidays - compared to tent pitch fees of about £350 on the same site!

You will find all the operators will be around the same price.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

Contact the site first. Many of them have their own statics for rent.

We are using Eurocamp for the first time this year, before we have booked our own pitch, but this year we are staying in a static.
I am happy so far, they sent through a really good information pack that not only contains the site info, but maps, a handy road atlas, inflatable beach thing for the kids, a rucksack that is also insulated for use as a cooler and other useful items.

The cost of the holiday is more than it cost when we had the folding camper, but I am don't have to tow or set up or take down. That has to be worth something.

We have used most of them over the course of the last 16 years. Eurocamp are the most expensive we found and have more sites etc. Not sure about them being value for money though last went with them in 2003 cost us a fortune and that is what prompted us to buy our own van and tow it. Keycamp are much the same. select sites and canvas are better value for money but don't offer so much. But at the end of the day each to their own!
