We want to go to The Ile de Re in August.  A lot of the campsites seem very expensive (up to 50 Euros a night!) - but I am trying to find a smaller or municipal site that has a swimming pool for camper van, 2 adults and 2 kids.  Any suggestion gratefully received.

You'll be lucky if you mean August 2006!

But I think this site http://www.campings-ile-de-re.com/ has a more or less comprehensive list of sites. On the other hand there are 54 here, including a municipal http://www.campingfrance.com/camping-directory/ile-de-re-camping.htm

Hope that helps,

Liz

I have been recommended Camp municipal des Amis de la Plage, only 50m from the sea, but I don't think it has a pool. However, that may make it cheaper!! Ile de Re does get very busy in the summer, but as most of France go back to work mid August, the last 2 weeks it may be easier to find a pitch.

Try www.iledere.fr for info.

Camp Du Soleil in Ars-en-Ré is excellent. We stayed there (in a chalet-mobile) for a week at the beginning of the month and it was wonderful. About 5 mins walk to the beach one way and 5 mins walk to the village the other.
