Eurotunel charged £30 per dog for the return trip (I believe the ferry's charge the same) for checking the Pet Passport on the return leg.

We used Eurotunel because you sit in the car with your dogs and the trip only takes 35 mins.

We`re going to France for the first time next year and are taking our pooch with us. There is no way I couldn`t take her, I know she`d be much happier with us and put up with the heat than at home in a kennels without us.

We intend to use the tunnel too as it means she can stay with us for the whole journey.

Also once you`ve had all the necessary stuff done to get a pet passport, you`ve got it for their lifetime as long as you keep up with vaccines which you would do anyway even if you weren`t taking them away.

Responsible dog owners know not to leave their pooches unattended in a car and keep them provided with lots of water, regular stops for walkies and wees and keep them in the shade so I wouldn`t worry. At the end of the day if you dog is with you she will be happy.

Happy holidays!

I agree with Steve.

Our dogs have had passports from the start of the scheme, have been to many countries (without problems), and have been with us 3 times this year already. They are going to Ireland with us tomorrow (no passport needed for that) and to Spain in September.

We would not go without them.  Most European countries (not just France) are happy to have your (well behaved) dogs in restaurants, hotels etc.

It is only Britain that seems to find this a problem, but inexplicably not for guide dogs.

Have a great time whatever yo decide.

Michael

Hi we are going to france for the 1st time with a caravan and with our two dogs which i couldnt  bear to leave at home, it was expensive to get the pet passports but we think it will be worth it, we thought the eurotunnel was a rip off but there you go!! we are going to Loire Valley on the 18th, i will be worried until we find and book the vets and i am abit worried about understanding the time limits& seeing the vets. But we are seeing our vets before we go so i will get him to explain again!! still cant wait!!!  GOOD LUCK & go for it!!!
