Which Grand Metairie do you mean? There are two that I know of, Bittany & the Vendee. I've been to the Vendee site in La Foret a couple of times. It's a nice site, very busy though. Nice pool area and bar/restaurant. The only grumble we had were the french dog owners. They just let their dogs poo anywhere, but give them their due, the site management followed up our complaints and repremanded the owners.

All in all, this site is well worth a visit.

Hi Dave

Try searching for previous posts on this campsite, it's fabulous. Stayed there last August with Eurocamp, would recommend it to anyone, especially with kids as there was loads to do.

Cheers

Mick

Tell you what, this would be a really nice site either side of the peak season but I imagine it could be a nightmare otherwise. Depends what you want from the site.

It's certainly in a lovely area situated just inland from Trinite sur Mer and Carnac in Southern Brittany.

Comparing it to the site we were on called Camping la Baie at Trinite I know where I would recommend. Our site was literally 50 meters from a lovely sandy beach, it had a nice size pool and play area for the children, I think about 180 generous sized pitches. Over the road was a great little general store for your day-to-day needs. Also between the site and the beach was a really good restaurant/cafe/bar. Slightly further afield was a Super U supermarket on the edge of Carnac for your more exotic needs and cheap motor fuels.

It was also a dead easy, toll-free drive from Caen which took us about four hours with a couple of stops. Here's the web site:

Cheers!

Vic

Dead right m'dears. We liked it so much we've made a provisional booking for next year. Can't wait to get back there.

We stayed at La Grande Metairie a few years ago - had a great time.  Kids enjoyed the animals on site.  Our pitch was quite difficult to access - twin axle needs more manoeuvring room, but our pitch didn't have much of that! We tried to book it again for this year, but couldn't get in, so are going to Les Moustoirs which is a bit further inland.  We always aim for sites with good pools with flumes and slides for the kids - happy kids means happy mum and dad, so good hols!  Have a good time.

weve stayed there too and reviewed it on the campsite reviews

It was great, loads for the children to do, it could possibly be very busy in high season but it depends what you are after in terms of facilities etc. weve stayed at other sites and found the facilities not to be a patch on the quality at le grand metiarie and it was very nice indeed, bad behaviour wasnt tollerated from anyone ( in pparticular groupos of teens are quite strictly controlled to ensure they arent roaming after dark) but we found that made for a nice site- watch the lifeguards in the pool though, when we were there they were horrible to the children and made up rules as they felt in order to justify yelling at random children for various percieved misemeanours( and couldnt show anyone where these rules were when asked to point them out- rules are clearly posted at the pool)

if you supervise your kids while swimming though you will be on hand to deal with any nonsense and the staff may well be different now, we stayed a few years ago

That was really the only negative thing I can say about this site- two people with a poor attitude, pitches were great, bar areas , pool, restaurant, shop and showers and loos all impecable standard, they even have small childrens baths for under 5's
