Hi, if you're not too far away from the UK then the answer is yes. We picked up all UK channels on our normal portable when in Cherbourg.

You'll probably find you need an decent external aerial,

Maxview Compact Log Periodic (B2002)  or the Status Image 530/19-2 are both directional high gain, wideband aerials.

Good luck. we've never tried to be honest as we find it quicker and easier to use a cheap dish and freesat but of course you need a  box as well.

Nick

You'ld be better with a slightly larger dish and a satellite compass helps as well

These are the first two I saw. You can probably get cheaper though.

Your box from home will be fine, but if its Sky+ then you need a twin LNB

Some people use a signal strength meter. I tend to do mine from the set up menu in the Sky Box.

Ditch the T, you're on holiday!  I'd definitely agree, apart from the fact that I am taking three kids to the Dordogne on my own for 2weeks.  At home the children are banned from watching more than 1/2 tv a day, but I will be trying to rig up a satellite just so I can tune into my favourite radio stations.  I figure I'll feel a bit less isolated if I can touch base with Steve Wright in the afternoon occasionally!

Notwithstanding TV itself will be completely banned

Definitely if you are around Calais.

I bought the Lidl satellite system which comes with a 38cm dish. It worked in the Southern Vendee much further from the UK than you will be.
