Public holiday, most things will be shut in small towns, holiday places will be fine and there should be lots of fireworks during the night, oh and I forgot to mention the place will be crawling with french people! Oh never mind!
I have been to the South of France for 2 of the last 3 years at this time and it has been good, except for the fact that there as so many bloody French people around!
I do hope that was meant to be a joke, Sham! If there is one thing that, as far as we are concerned, has got worse in the twenty-odd years that we have been camping or caranning in France, it is that we seem to encounter fewer and fewer French people every year. We wouldn't go if we didn't like the people as well as the country, but much of the real French ambience seems to be disappearing at a rapid pace! Vive la France!
Lorna, I think some of the supermarkets may open for a half day on the 15th (in tourist areas anyway), if they do they will advertise this in the supermarkets.
If you are anywhere near a beach on 15th, go and see the fireworks, its a great social occasion.

Presumably Sham has had unpleasant experience of French people met on holiday in August.
Remember that these are probably not typical of the locals and are likely to be Parisiens on holiday.
The local people usually hate them too.
What I was concerned about was that because 15th is on a Tuesday then shops may be closed sun, mon and tue...we will arrive on Sunday 13th and need to be able to get some groceries when we get there. Will Val d'europe or shops at Tournan be open on mon/tues?
8 days and counting!!!!
