We usually book through Eurocamp but after reading a lot of your previous comments we are seriously thinking of booking independently next year so HELP!!!!!

Ferries I can do but what about campsites? Where is the best place to find a list of campsites? We are thinking Med Spain possibly Costa Dorada or Costa Brava with kids so need plenty to do. Any advice or recommendations much appreciated! Off to France next week but thinking about next year already!!!!

Thanks

Camping Sanguli in Salou is fantastic for kids (even us big uns).  Its a big site with three pools and plenty for the kids to do during the day with some night-time entertainment too.  Because its situated about half an hours walk to Salou centre, the beach and surrounding area is never too busy. A bus stop is just outside the park and you can take the kids to Port Aventura  which is excellent.  Can also vouch for "Freds" - also just outside the camp - for great food!!!

There is a part for camping and parts for statics and also companies like Eurocamp (cant remember if its actually them) have tents and statics too.  There is also a part that Spanish people erect their tents and leave them there in the way we would with astatic. The grounds are kept immaculate and there are security guards on at night so there is no roudiness (sp)

There is a railway line just at the camp enterance but it does have safety barriers and you never hear the trains in the camp.

There is a small supermarket, gym, cinema, gift shop, take-away and three bars on the site itself.

In the opposite direction of Salou is Cambrills which is beautifull...........a quaint little fishing village where you can go and watch the fishing boats come in...............they even give starfish etc out to the kids.  Then catch the boat back into the centre of Salou.............................ahhhhh, think I'll just go and book for myself now........See you there

Hi

I am now in my mid thirties, however, as a kid, we went to camping Aquarius on the Costa Brava (next door to camping Las Dunas - mentioned above) for 15 consecutive years. Now that I have 3 kids of my own, we went to Las Dunas 3 years ago and will go to Nautic Almata this year (just down the road)

This part of the Spanish coast is one of the best in the world: The whole area is a nature reserve, lots of orchards and farming, no big resorts / hotels. As a result, the beachs are very uncrowded, and due to the size of the beach, most of the campsites have private access.

Being so close to the Pyranese, the climate is slightly cooler, which is great for camping.

In terms of the local camp sites, Las Dunas is excellent, and has great facilities and a night club. Pitches are very large, and Eurocamp operate from there, as do a number of companies renting mobile homes and Caravans. The only problem is getting a site with shade.

We will visit Nautic Almata, partly to see another sites, and also because it is better for water-sports, It is on the mouth of the river Fluvia, which is a small, clean river, and the camp site itself has a series of canals. It is a big site, however, it has really excellent reviews. A company called Canavas operate from there (similar to Eurocamp) however, we are hiring a caravan from Caranvan Inn

My personal favourite is Camping Aquarius, which is run by the same family who ran it when I was a Kid 30 years ago. It is a small camp site, however, the owners are fanatical about providing a more personal experience. most of the pitches have shade, and the facilities are a good as you would ever want. Although there is no one like Euro Camp operating from there yet. I notice that they now have some mobile homes, however, these were reserved before I got round to booking.

There is more than enough to do for 2 or 3 weeks, the beach and mountains are excellent, Port Aventura is a day trip, there are other similar attrations and water parks in Rosas, which is 30 minutes away. Barcelona is 1 1/2 hours drive, there are numerous towns some with lots of tourist attractions and many without. The Dali Museum in Figueras is worth a visit (but very busy)

In terms of travel it is 1 1/2 days drive from Calais. My wife and kids are flying and I am driving alone as our 2 year old daughter won't stay in the car for that long - although given the costs of flying these days, it is not too expensive to do that

I usually cross the channel through the tunnel, however, this year I am taking the Speedferries crossing from Dover to Boulogne, and will drive down, via Le Mans and Toulouse (where I am picking up the family)

All of the bookings were made via the internet, and everything mentioned here can easily be found using search engines

When I get back in early September, I will let you know how it went

Matt

Hi Joanne & Mike

Please tell me more? Where did you sail from and to because that seems a very good price and when did you go to Spain? and where did you stay? I know I might sound nosey but we are very keen to go next year and obviously want to find the most cost effective way to do it. When you say 16 hours did you have a stopover? Where? Would love to see some pics of where you stayed our e-mail is cartwri16 at blueyonder.co.uk

Thanks for all your help33

If you go here http://www.suncampholidays.co.uk/ you can get a list of sites in spain. You can book through suncamp but it is cheaper to take the email address and book independently. We have done both. The first year we booked through suncamp but after that we have booked direct with the site- 0nly in france so far but hope this is of some help. We're hoping to go to Croatia next year, Claire.

Can recommend Sanguli. You can book direct with them. Their website is

www.sanguli.es

We usually drive from Calais and stay either one or two nights in an ETAP hotel, but this year I'm taking a folding camper and staying overnight at Camping de la Touche.According to michelin in should take 22hours from Shropshire to Sanguli

Rubble

Mabye you can help? I have looked on sangulis on line booking site as we are very interested in this site but when I put in some dates for next August it said pitches marked in red are unavaliable and pitches in green free there were no pitches showing in red and only 4 in green is this usual that they might be fully booked for next year already?? As you mentioned on line booking I didn't know whether you had used it yourself?

You can't book until October/November for the following August.

If you contact the site and ask them they will notify you when they will take bookings. The 1st two weeks of August are always very busy but any dates from abhout teh 10th onwards are fairly simple. We obtained our 1st choice when we booked in Oct/November and some friends who only booked in March are going there tomorrow. They have a sister site called Cambrils Park which is also very good.

www.cambrilspark.es

Hope that this helps, we are going there on friday. Travel from dover early morning and hopefully arrive late saturday

Thanks Rubble thats fab will look into it further in Oct/Nov. We want to sail Plymouth-Santander though,  we did Dover -Calais last year and went to southern Vendee and the kids didn't travel very well so we are trying to find shortest possible drive its about 398 miles from Santander.

We are also off on Friday to Southern Brittany Trinite sur mer by Carnac, we are sailing Plymouth - Roscoff though and only 120 mile drive when we get there!

Have a lovely holiday and we will look forward to visiting Sanguli next year.

By the way any advice on the best pitches to book will be much appreciated.
