Hi there, am travelling to the Dordogne on 18th August.  As I am doing all the driving myself (with 3 kids) I want to book on a site near the Dover port for 1night, but everywhere insists 2 night minimum.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  I want to put legs down on a site, rather than the marina car park or the dover tescos, as i want the childrent to be able to safely stretch their legs without me worrying.  I am planning to arrive early afternoon, legs down and relax, and have a sleep before leaving the site at 2am to catch the 4am ferry.  Any suggestions?

I know I could pay for 2 nights and just stay one, but I'll only be on the site for 12 hours!

Fantastic, thankyou!  I had already rung Hawthorne farm and they had said its a 2 nights minimum but after your post I rang them back and said could I maybe stay in the late arrivals field and they said yes - just turn up! 

So thats another problem solved, thanks!

Another option is the Folkestone Race Course site run by the Caravan Club but open to all. Facilities not brilliant but geared up for people to come and go at all hours.

Little Satmar is the closest to Dover at Capel le Ferne (5 miles) ..... Little Switzerland is next in Folkestone (6 miles) ....... Folkestone race course is at Westerhanger (14 miles)

We was  stopping over for one night at Black horse farm cc site  on the 13th August in Densole 15mins from Dover and had a early crossing, no problem. But now booked the night before then our holiday starts early. can't wait been loading the van already

We stayed at Hawthorne Farm last year before sailing to France and it was fine although backs on to a railway line (noisy at times) and as they are so close to the port they don't mind what time you leave the site. We would stay there again but as a previous member said we have also stayed at the c & c club site at Canterbury which is lovely.
