Hi all we are planning to go in Oct camping, got all the stuff(thanks to posting and reading tips on here)

We are sailing from Porstmouth-Caen (overnight as we are 450miles north)  and then looking to drive approx 5hrs max

At the moment we are looking at Twin Lakes

http://www.twinlakesfrance.com/pages/thesite.htm

Any info or alternative sites would be appreciated, hubby is a keen angler(mostly sea fishing) but will try anything, so must be near water or coast.

Thanks in advance

Also we have satnav in car how easy is it to upgrade to french roads and is it worth it?

Cant help with location, but my Freelander has Sat Nav (by Landrover) and a 2006 CD ROM. Whilst it works a treat in the UK, it was very ropey in France - Infact as soon as we arrived in Caen it said off road!
If you have Tom Tom you'll be better off but I'd do a Route Via the AA or that other one that alludes me at the mo
and Buy the latest Atlas.

Good luck with the sleeping we found that front cabins are quieter but still needed a horse tranquilizer to doze off (may I suggest the bar)

we have a Navman 520 satnav and it worked fine towing our caravan in brittany this year.you need a bit of practice putting the best settings for road choice and we took a paper route as a backup.it got us to our destination fine with minor glitches .it got us through autoroutes/ring roads and all the main junctions.there is a good website called www.pocketgpsworld.com that has lots of info.cant help with the campsite i dont know much about the area you are going to.but for sea angling anywhere on the brittany coast is o.k

Sea fishing seems popular down the west coast, you always see fishermen on the beach with their lines out. There are still a few sites open throughout October on the Coast.

Hi - Have you booked your campsite(s) because France seems to close down in late September. We've headed for sites said to close half way through October in various books and found them closed by 28th September. You just can't rely on them still being open.

A good sat/nav is a boon, but don't rely on postal codes - it will get you somewhere near but could be a distance away. I ended up in a German forest on a single track road with a caravan when the site I was looking for was about five miles away and I had to backtrack a considerable distance. So use a sat/nav as an additional guide - don't forget the map and your own brain power.

Give Gary & Sandra a call on; 0114 246 3800 or 07962 070 422 thats their UK numbers and check that they are still open in October.

Or try http://www.clearwaterlakes.com/ thats the English couple that where on Ch4 about 5 years ago!

As for SatNav we had the same problem in our Renault when we moved here, in the end I had to buy an extra Eu' disk!
