would like to share with everyone at how brilliant our trip was to port grimaund by train.

We went from Waterloo to Lille then changed to the TGV to St Raphael, to be able to relax and watch the views as you go past was brilliant, cannot wait to do it again.

Port Grimaund was great the last time i went was in the eighties so it was nice to return and find the place still as i remember and even better.

The only bad point was not having a car and relying on buses which we discovered are not that reliable in France and were sweating once or twice if the last bus in the afternoon was going to turn up it did but two hours late!!!!

how long did the train take from lille.

did you book this in advance.

my husaband used to work for british rail (hes now retired) and we have thought about doing something like this.

where did you stay tent / campsite. the only thing that puts me off is not having any transport when you reach your destination.

Hi Nora,

The train from Lille took approx six hours, which flew by.

We booked the tickets at the end of April when they are released through RailEurope if they know when you are travelling they will give you a call just before they release the tickets.

We stayed at Praries de la mer , at St Raphael we caught the bus to the site which stopped right outside.

I suppose if you really needed a car you could hire one from the site.

                                              Kind Regards

                                                 Chris

thanks chris for the reply.

we get rail concessions but never use them and have often thought about going to the south of france but as you have said  its being without a car when you are there. also i hate hotel holidays.

we have just returned from france with the caravan the journey took us 3 days.

the roads were good but we had a stop in dover then another stop just outside rouen. arriving on the 3rd day at 4.30 oh we went to royan. it was a long way so unless we go by train i cant see me ever getting to the med.

from nora.

Hi Mandywrecsam,

We were really surprised at the cost we got consessions for our eighteen year old daughter as well!!!

The cost for our two return tickets were one hundred pound each thats from Waterloo to St Raphael, our daughters was about eighty pound return, beats our rail prices!!!!!
