Just got a couple of questions which I'm sure can easily be answered.

Me and a group of 6 friends are travelling around Europe on a three week inter rail ticket from Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Greece and Turkey. We'll be camping in tents in designated campsites near the cities we're visiting.

However, I was wondering how one goes about recharging digital camera batteries and charging up other electrical equipment? Are the campsites more sophisticated than we think in these countries, with access to sockets available or are we stuffed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Matt

Forgot to add,

Also wondered what chances of accessing an iron + ironing board whilst abroad? Would only really need to do it once, maybe twice. Do more established campsites have these facilities available?

Regards,

Matt

Matt

A lot of campsites have a coin operated iron in their laundrey areas. Some will even loan you one. Most sites have razor sockets in the toilet blocks but the trouble is that is not very secure. There will Electric hook up points but you won't want to carry the necessary cables with you. If you know the sites in advance why not e-mail them asking if they could help you.

Ive travelled extensively in Europe and there is almost always a place to charge your gadgets- if only in the loos (take a 2 pin euro adapter and you're away).  We were in Heidleburg last year and the bunkhouse used by the students was over the toilet/shower block and they had about 25 iPods re-charging at any one time on the razor outlet plugs!  That's not to say that crime doesnt exist- but at least the access to charging was much better than UK sites.  I would recommend getting a pitch with electric hook-up (normal in Europe- you'll need an adapter (about 8 quid)) and/or a solar charger (Solio) with plug adapters for iPod/mobile etc (get them off eBay).  Then if you've got a charged Solio it'll keep you going until you can either allow it to charge using the sun's energy or you get back to mains.  They're about 35 quid off eBay.

Have a good trip!

Most sites will have an iron- alternatively put your clothes under your sleeping bag at night and press them that way..................

Can anyone see DplusG's avatar, or is it just my PC missing some means of reading it?

Phil.

For the digital camera's, invest in a spare battery (or two) fully charge them before you go and dont spend too much time reviewing the pictures you have taken, another trick is to use the viewfinder rather than the screen for composing shots...that saves loads of power...and with a bit of luck the batteries will last your entire holiday.
