Two questions, can anyone recomend a good book listing camp sites in France, we would like to stay at fairly basic site's municipal/2star in the south.

We plan to go early season, late May/ early June, is booking required or shouldnt there be a problem?

The Michelin Campsite book will list all the campsites but is a bit thin on information other than the facts like how many pitches, toilet blocks. The Caravan Club European Guide is considered to be the bible by us caravanners. All reports by members. However sometimes the editing of the reports tends to make for contradictory reading but is generally OK. The Alan Roger guides are good but tend to deal more with the more popular campsites with lots of facilities but don't forget that at the time you intend going some of the facilities will not be available anyway. You could think about Camping Cheques as there are lots of sites that accept these.

If you go to this website http://www.abccamping.com/introuk.htm
and follow the coordinates link, you can look for campings in any area of France. You can then see aerial photos, maps and also click on individual site websites.

Just Google names of towns in the region you plan to visit-most towns have their own websites & info includes campsites in the area--

If you look at the caravan club web site they do a superb book listing most if not all the campsites in france. It is excellent and usually has reviews from members. Its the most comprehensive one we have come accross.

Hi we've been in France during June and July this year and did not book any sites before we arrived and did not have any problems at all.  We used the Rough Guide and the ACSi Camping guide Europe (bought it in Lidl's before we left) to find sites.  Otherwise just turn up and go to the tourist office and ask as most towns have a camping site.  You can also use the ACSi guides website to search for sites.
