Hi

We are thinking of going to France next year. Help needed we have a twin axle van and also would like to take our dog.  The dog has got a passport and had all his jabs anybody know of vets next channel ports or any info about taking our dog.

With regards to our twin axle I have heard that some sites will not accept these vans, not sure which part of France to go to.  We have also consided Germany and Austria.

Sennen

Hi Sennen

You can only travel 24 - 48 hours after you have had the dog checked and passport stamped at a vets here. Like the one in our local town

As for twin axle caravans, a lot of sites will not allow them - check first. Our rule is no commercial vehicle allowed on-site with out prior arrangement!

I hope this helps, just ask/email if you have any other questions.

Don't know of any Vets near the Ports (I'm sure other people will answer) but I do know that the nearer you get to the Ports the dearer the Vets get. We had our 2 treated in Alenson (as it was our last stop in France) and the Vet charged €56 for the 2.

Regards Twin Axles, we stayed on 4 different sites in France (all municipals) with out any problems, the Caravan Club guide for France does tell you which sites wont take them.

We use Valery Delval in Calais, costs us 50 euros, if you need a list of vets you can find one on the DEFRA website.

    hi sennen,

we always end up at Camping Chateau du Gandspette which is only 12k from calais a few days before returning to the U.K. there is a vet 5 mins away. you must get the dog treated between 24 and 48 hours before return to the U.K. it is just a tick treatment and a worming tablet which our 2 yorkies take in a lump of cheese if you dont want the jab. you can make an appointment with the vet at j.paulus at waika9.com . hope this helps you.

Sennen,

A word of warning! Make sure that the date your dog was micro chipped is before the date of the rabies jab. We have just returned with our dog for the first time and 2 people in front of us at the eurotunnel Pet check desk were having great difficulties. The lady behind the desk refused to accept one dog because the dates were not in the correct order. The second couple had similar problems, however we were dealt with and left before thier problem was resolved.

We used Clinique Veterinaire du Parc St Pierre which is near the Hotel de ville(the place with the clock tower) in the middle of Calais. It cost us £32.11 (46.00 Euro)

Steve
