...I used a vodaphone payg in France last year...couldn't get a vodaphone top up anywhere. According to the rep. on the site, it's impossible to do this in France,

I use a UK Vodafone payg when on the move in France. But I have got myself onto the system of topping up from my credit card - even in the UK. So if I run out of credit in France, then I can still top up using my UK credit card.

Of course, I use it as little as possible when abroad, and heartily dissuade anyone from calling me - I tell them to send me texts, as mentioned elsewhere ont his thread.
The only problem is that it doesn't seem to warn you when your credit is running low; you just find that your phone doesn't seem to connect.

Over the past few years I have spent my main holiday in France (3weeks duration), in addition to that we visit around six times per year.

I purchased a mobile phone (PAYG) in France for use when I am there and it's been really cheap especially if you call another number in France; to do this on a UK purchased mobile phone your call will be routed back to the UK and then back to France............mega bucks.

I'm off to Australia later this year. I will need to make a lot of 'domestic' calls whilst there so I've done the costings and the cheapest option will be to buy a PAYG phone out there and bin it before I return to the UK............or sell it.

Hope this helps?

i'm on contract with o2, and had a bill for 50 quid when we got back from france. i thought it wasn't too bad cos daughters friend had used it to phone home a bit. just had this months bill tho, another 100 quid - the first 50 was only for the first few days!

i'm bloody furious - never again will i take someone elses kid on holiday. she spent the whole bloody time phoning her boyfriend!!!

Best not to let kids have mobile phones unless their calls are absolutely necessary. You should have billed her
