My wife and I are planning on joining our friends on a holiday in Spain next year and it will be our first time driving abroad. Could somebody please advise if the toll charges for a motorhome are the same or greater than for a car. I have been trying to calculate the cost but the websites I have found all assume travelling by car. I cannot use our friends toll fees for a basis as they are towing a boat

i dont know if this helps . we have a car and caravan . this year we went to royan half way down the west coast of france. i put £300 for the fuel toll and any over night stops. both ways i was hoping to have some money left over. we stopped on route in a municipal £6 a night and there was nothing left out of my £300 so that was £150 each way. i thought this was a lot. but the roads were brilliant no traffic and motorway all the way from calais.

Hi

I don't know, but Mappy allows you to select vehicles from a menu in the options. If motorhome isn't an option try goods vehicle of same size (though I think the price break is at 7.5t regardless of type); that'll give you worst case scenario. Event the official autoroutes.fr website just uses the mappy tool as its stooge.

One thing I learned recently is that you can be fined if seen by the police for moving off from a toll booth before the passenger has re-fitted their seatbelt. £68.

The French Autoroutes network has a web site. Doesnt it tell you on there what the different tolls will be.

Hi Andrew,

Motorhomes usually come in category 2 for tolls.

Probably similar to your friend's car with boat trailer.

But if you select minibus in the Mappy site that will almost certainly be the same as a motorhome.

There are some motorways, in Spain, for example La Jonquera to Salou, which will charge you the same as a car.

Hi Andrew

When we moved to our campsite in France 2 years ago, we brought our motorhome with us, which is now back in the UK & for sale - see our homepage/website for details.

We where charged as a class 2 rate ie: a lorry.

I hope this helps.

Andrew, if you look at the mappy home page on the left in the itinerary section, you will see 'options' in blue letters and underlined at the bottom.

If you click on that you can choose your vehicle type and other things which will affect the recommended route and costs.
