Hi we are still looking at going to brittany next year but we are not sure whether its best to book with the site direct or with a tour operator. Any reccommendations would be great.

Hi Shell,

it all depends on what you want to pay and what kind of a 'comfort zone' you require. If you're happy that you'll probably pay 35% and over on top of the owner's price to have a tour company do your booking, plan your routes and book ferries etc. then fine. It's really not difficult to contact the owners direct now. Many have websites and take bookings from English, Dutch, Belgians etc. The ferry companies are easy to book with, you just need to shop around for the best prices.

It's also easy enough to plan your own routes too with sites like www.mappy.com, or www.viamichelin.com. Also, see the excellent pinned post by Trekkin' Tekkie re. first time campers in France.

Hi Shell, If it's your first time across to La Belle France, try Select Sites, very helpful, i've used them 3 -4 yrs on the trot, Andrew and his team are great and prices are reasonable. regards David         01873 - 859875 or website

We are thinking of going to France next year to 4 Vents. It will be our first experience abroad both booking the holiday and driving. If we made the site booking ourselves, do you have to pay the site a deposit and if so, how is it done? For first timers would it be easier to go through the Caravan Club?
Thanks
Nicki

hi

Don't know about the Caravan Club, we stayed on a French site, just gave them a credit card number for the deposit.

We went for the first time this year. We found a site we liked on the internet and e-mailed them, paid our deposit and the remainder when we got there, Really easy .we paid by debit card if i remember right.

We were there this year Nicki, we booked via their website, without any problems and they didn't ask for a deposit. There is another thread about Des 4 Vents at the moment and I dont think they accept bookings for next year til March.
