Two pitches with Camping Cheques would cost 28 euros per night, then a supplement of 40 euros per night (their quoted prices for 5 children over 7 at 8 euros each), makes a total of 68 euros per night for both pitches. For ten nights I make this 680 euros which is a considerable saving over what you were quoted. If you did choose a beachfront pitch then I think you'd probably pay another 40 euros. I suppose this brings it much nearer to what you were quoted, but even 100 euros will go a little way towards your spending money. I know it sounds like taking a leap of faith when there are so many of you, but I honestly don't think you'll have any problem in May/June, even getting two adjacent pitches if that's what they expect, if you just turn up and ask to pay with Camping Cheques. We were there in May/June this year, and there were lots of empty pitches, even on the beachfront. You can always just put up a token pup tent on the second pitch, and then bob's your uncle!!! It's not the sort of site where they'll be counting numbers, and 'who sleeps where' at night. Sorry it's causing you so much hassle - I honestly didn't think you'd have a problem.
I think we Brits are so used to campsites in England being full each weekend during the season, and for many complete weeks, that we always feel we have to book in advance, but the French don't do it this way. They just turn up and expect a pitch, except in the very highest of the high season, after 14th July for three/four weeks.
