 Airotel Residence des Pins

 We are considering going to this site next year, has anyone been. Any information  on the site or the surrounding area would be appreciated.

I am considering this site this summer as well.  From what I can make out, it is just south of Biarritz, almost opposite the Pavillion Royal Campsite (of which there is a review on here).  Perhaps the guy who visited that has some more info.

Biarritz is cool for beaches/surfing etc. the town itself very nice to walk around.  if you do go - make sure you check out 'la Rhune' - a mountain railway taking you to a peak on the French/Spanish border. St Jean de Luz is also worth a visit.  I keep on promising myself to pop over to spain to Saint Sebastian - maybe this year

As Andy says it is opposite Pavillion Royal which is where we stayed. However we did have a look round  des Pins and it looked a nice campsite. It has more shade because of the Pine trees!! One amazing feature of the campsite are hundreds of Hydrangea plants all around the site.The people at reception were friendly and even offered us a site map when we asked if we could look round.

Hi

Le Ruisseau is a bit further out from Biarritz, at Bidart. That's a nice site, with its own carp lake apparently....

The catch (no pun..) with Le Ruisseau is that it's too far from Biarritz to walk, In fact we didn't venture out of the site on foot at all. Biarritz is particularly nice (hence popular) in the evenings, and so parking can get tight.

I'd agree with Lagerhead about the nearby must-dos: La Rhune (go early, especially if its the first clear day after a few overcast ones), and St Jean de Luz and St Sebastian are both lovely towns.

HTH

TT.

David;

I take it the beach is only a 5 minte walk away from des pins?  Did you notice any cyclepaths (or cycle friendly roads for a nine year old) around there - i want to park up and leave the van for the week if possible.

Andy

From des Pins you cross the road outside the campsite and walk about 100 yards towards Biarritz and then turn left down a lane for about another 100 yards which leads to Pavillion Royal, at the entrance you take the path to the right which brings you to a beautiful beach at perhaps another 100 yards. I would say a 5/10 minute walk.

I don't recall any cycle paths in that area and the roads are quite busy. Now further north near Vieux-Boucau and Messanges there are lots of cycle paths in the forest.
