Tried to do an on-line booking through CC for Hull/Rotterdam next year, but it asks for car registration number.  We will be getting a new towcar next March so have no idea what the number will be, can we still book now? 

Has anyone any experience of this?

The same happened to us when we moved to France.

P&O didn't care as long as it was still a car.

We changed our car after booking a ferry with Norfolk line. I just emailed them the new registration and there was no charge because the new car didnt break the lengh and height regulations.

Really looking forward to it!!   Official retirement date is not till almost end of August but OH will have a few  weeks holiday to take and is taking another few weeks as unpaid leave, so as not to upset the pension scheme.

There is so much to think about and arrange!   We need a laptop for downloading digital photos and route planning.  His employer may well say to keep the one he has, but we won't know until late on. 

 They also provide his mobile phone, he might get to keep it too, but I doubt they will pay the bills, so we need to think about a contract or PAYG, never had to consider that before, don't want huge bills!

  Would like some Internet access too, haven't a clue how to organise that!  Need to keep in touch and keep an eye on the bank account!

Then I'm thinking we should pack a comprehensive set of spares for the van as we are off to the North Cape.

Hi Jen,

depending upon how much time you're spending in different countries, it may be wise to buy a mobile from a company that won't sting you with 'roaming' charges. Ask around in your local stores for the best deals. You'll quite possibly need to use the mobile as a modem too to access e-mails etc. It'll be VERY expensive for surfing the 'net, so try to find internet cafes for that, or use sites where there's internet access. We let guests log in to download e-mails etc. or check bank accounts online using our 'spare' computer.

Thanks Stu!      I heard a while back that the EU lot were looking at roaming charges, I wonder when something will be done to reduce them?

We will be crossing to Rotterdam and making our way through Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and into Norway.  Coming back it will be south through Norway, into Sweden then possibly a ferry to Germany.  Haven't really done much planning yet!

Is it reasonable to text from abroad?  And do you have to pay to receive a text while abroad?  You see how little I know!!!

 I could get daughter to keep an eye on the bank and transfer money/pay bills as required.  Most stuff is on DDs anyway.  That assumes that she will be here!  She will be working all summer I expect, as it will be between her 4th and 5th years at Uni.  So it will depend where she gets a job.

We will be visiting relatives in Norway part of the time, so will be able to use their internet at times!

Hi I have a Mini XDA Phone from O2 We can download and send E-Mails from it and also surf the net It is expensive to to surf the net but sendind and receiving E-Mails not to bad as we put a download retriction just in case anyone sends any thing to big.

I also have on my Laptop with a Vodaphone card that lets we also download and surf (The company pay for this so not to sure how much) This tends to be a bit slow but great when i am in the middle of no where with no wireless conection.
