Hi, We are going to France next summer with our caravan for the first time and I was wondering about breakdown cover. At the moment I am with Mayday through the CC. Is there a company that includes continental breakdown in the yearly cover or is this something that you have to add on separately for the time that you are away? I'm just trying to suss out the cheapest way of doing it before my next breakdown cover renewal..... Cheers

Hi, I looked into the same thing last year and all the companies I contacted only supply cover for the duration of your stay. Nobody would give me year round cover.
We have full UK and European breakdown cover with Green Flag. Annual policy, includes commuting cover for OH. Try www.moneysupermarket.com (or possibly .co.uk ) and you can get a quote on breakdown cover from all the providers at the same time. I think our policy is £9 a month on direct debit, and that includes rescue and recovery and homestart and onward travel etc.

We have full home and european cover for car & caravan including roadside assistance, home start and recovery from MORE THAN - cost £62.20 for full year.
By the way, had to use them on the way back from Norwich when towing on the A1. Couldn't praise them highly enough.

Would not go abroad without the Caravan Club Red Pennant Insurance, its not cheap but its the one that everyone else is judged against.

As David said, Why take second best? You and your caravan and car all insured with the same company. If the proverbial hits the fan, you have nothing to worry about and everything will be taken care of, probably with one phone call!

This year we took our van abroad for the first time, as we were insured with the AA we thought we would get their European cover, only to be told that as our van was over 6m they could not cover us and told us that the only company that would cover a van over 6m with 5 occupants was Red Pennant. This was £90 for the car, van and two people and then they charged us £15 per child, not sure if this is the norm, but they is no way I would take a risk to save a few pounds, if it meant leaving the family and myself at risk(or open to being ripped off L R & C) abroad.
Best regards, Martin
