Hi all  Booked Portsmouth-Caen incl extra length & height caravan + 5 Camping Cheques for £323. that includes £74 extra for height & length. But this is low midweek crossing. Out mid May back end June. I find it cheaper than Dover Calais when you take the fuel and tolls in France and UK. We are from the west,  it is more easygoing to get to Portsmouth than Dover.

Hi Vini,

Could you be more specific with dates and ferry times please?

Did you book direct with Brittany or through an agent?

I've been surfing the internet and cannot get cheaper than £500.00 for return crossings in June.

As an aside I would have thought that Plymouth was even easier from Chester ie M6, M5, A38 than having to cross country to Portsmouth. Only a thought..........

Cheers!

Vic

Hi all,

can anyone explain how the Tesco points work please? We have 1200 points at the moment and want to use them towards a ferry next summer. I'm feeling a bit dumb this morning so sorry for appearing thick but I don't understand how it works.

Chester's in the west, o' course it is. If you consider the Pennines the halfway line?

And it's dead easy to get to Pompey from there. Down the M6 to the A34 turn at Oxford, through Newbury for some fruits and on to Pompey....a doddle!

Every £10 worth of clubcard vouchers is worth £40 in clubcard deals. If you go onto the Tesco website and click on clubcard and Deals you will see a list of participating companies and their offers. You have to change your clubcard vouchers for deals vouchers and this can be done online if your vouchers have an online code on them. Only older vouchers dont have this. They have to be returned and exchanged for deal vouchers. You then book your ferry direct and quote your deal voucher code. Full details are on the Tesco Clubcard website. Hope this helps.

Carol

ps Tesco will be sending out customers latest vouchers this month so it might be worth hanging on to get yor last quarters points.

Hi Vic  Booked with Camping Cheques Direct, Thur 10th May Sail out at 15.15pm. Return Mon 2nd July 9.00am. This was an early booking offer (book by 31st Oct) but i dont think it is much more now. It was Dover-Dunkirk, car and passengers + 5 camping cheques (worth £50) for £159. Caravan was £7 extra each way. You get the same offer for Portsmouth-Caen but have to Pay a supplement of £45 each way for the Car/Caravan/passengers + we paid £37 each way for over 6m length and over 2.6m height Caravan.Total £323.

                              Hope this helps  Vini

With regards to the earlier question about the Newhaven - Dieppe route and Transmanche:

They now have two brand new ships, The Cote D'alabatre and the Seven Sisters.

There are cabins available but you will probably have to pay for them (don't know how much)

Crossing time is just under four hours.

We used Transmanche ferries last year and loved them. Lovely brand new ships, clean, tidy, good food. Newhaven is easier (for us) than Dover, landed at Dieppe, 2 hours further down the road than Calais. The crossing at 4 hours was just about right. Dover/Calais - no sooner do you find somewhere to sit than it's time to get off again, Portsmouth/Caen is just long enough for you to get bored and kids fractious.
We paid £160 in July last year and only booked 2 weeks before we travelled. Cabins (very comfortable too) were £20 extra. We'll definately use them again this year
