Just out of curiosity i,ve looked at this site and really like the look of it. Does anyone have anymore info , good or bad. What is location like for towns ,villages etc, site seeing. We normally like small quieter sites rather than the big all singing and dancing sites, so would this be a good choice for us. If not what would reccommend in that locality. advice please

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
I have not been but have heard a lot of people praising it.The only negative I have heard was from someone who was there in the peak season and felt it was too busy for his liking. But this would be true of most popular campsites during July/August.
No, used Castels before. First time for everything.
Usually we go to Italy, Spain or South of France. It's going to be novel arriving at our holiday destination on the same day we leave home. We fancied a shorter drive for once.

We have been here but just for 1 night. It is one of the sites definately to return to. Quiet, ( we were there at the begining of August 2003 when there was a heatwave God was it hot) If you do not like the all singing and dancing sites this is one for you. Smallish swimming pool bit never crowded, lovely cafe/takeaway and the local villages are lovely. Yep I can definately recommend it!
Went there last year in August - all pitches taken but it didn't feel crowded. Had good facilities, old bar, lake etc. One 5 star toilet block (the poshest ever for a campsite) and one duff block.
Plenty to do in the area, good cycle routes (recommend taking / hiring bikes) and nice towns on the coast.
Nearest supermarket about 15mins drive.
I would go back...
We went there some time ago. Spent a few nights there in late August. Lovely setting, not too big. With Castels sites you get a certain standard and they are usually away from the towns set in lovely countryside int he grounds of old Chateau.
Hi all We have been for the last 3 years, booked a lakeside pitch for fishing. Good family run site (very friendly ) good toilet block to the right of the lake, near the new fixed static caravans/homes. Nice small bar and restaurant. Never went this year because of P&O ferry finishing. Sailed Portsmouth-Caen.
All the pitches are close to facilities etc - the site isn't very large. The ones around the lake looked particularly good. None of the toilet blocks are from any pitch, so wouldn't worry too much about requesting a specific pitch, unless you want to fish outside your front door???
If you have kids, then they have a very good ghost hunt!
