Following our highly succesful first camping trip to France this year we are thinking about heading for Italy next. We've stayed in a villa in Tuscany before and loved the whole Italian experience but having splashed out for the new tent this year want to take advantage.

We think somewhere on the Adriatic side would be nice, possibly within half a day or so of Venice, but not too close. We'd be happy to get up around 6.00am and drive for 3-4 hours for a day long visit.

Ideal site would be within 5 miles of the beach, not too large, must have swimming pool and ideally not too many other Brits.

Please let us hear of your Italian camping experiences, the wisdom, wit, experience and kindness of this forum has helped us enormously these last few years, I know you can come up trumps again.

I can remember when this was all fields.

Hi a recent thread on this site mentioned the Venetian Lagoon sites to the east of Venice, we went some years back and loved it and always said we would go back but have not managed it ,good beaches and close to Venice ( only a boat ride away),we stayed at Camping Ca-Savio a bloody huge site with every thing you need. There are many sites here with something for everyone, there are also many site along the Rimini side although when we went in the early 8os we stayed in a hotel(not for the faint hearted !!)

Lake Garda is possibly the best bet, even though it gets very busy, not sure if it will be too far out, but one of the main holiday destinations. Have not been there for many many years so can not comment on how it is now.

We are planning on going to Italy also next year, but havenot got to the looking stage as yet, just had confirmation that the dogs injections have all been succesful so just got her pet passport, will be interested to hear if anyone has any experiences with dogs on sites in Italy, asI have been lead to beleive they are restricted.

Hi Andy, it is very easy for a dog to pick up ticks in Italy so she will need to be examined closely every day and ticks removed immediately. The spray does not seem to be very effective. But should be used periodically in accordance with the instructions.

Phil.

Hi, We travelled in Italy for 2 months this year covering,Lake Como, Lake Garda, Venice, Florence and Rome.

Definitely our favourite places were the lakes, the further south we went the more we feared that our motorhome and us wouldn't escape unscathed!!! If the lights are on red then use the pavement seems to be the general Italian road rule!!!

We just found Lake Garda and Lake Como amazing with lots of campsite available. Try Colico at the north east of Lake Como - stunning.

We stayed at Camping Lido de Jesolo nr Venice which although was slightly more expensive the facilities were free. Free internet, catamaran, sun loungers, canoes, tickets to the aquapark, trips for children, go-karting, it was fantastic. And for a load in a washing machine only 50 cents!!! Very clean and I would highly recommend.

Enjoy

Just a thought, most Italian beaches do not allow dogs to go on them.

Thanks for that one, it looks like Italy is non dog friendly, will have to do more research on that one, unless anyone knows different

Andy we are taking our two dogs to Italy next year.We have booked two sites with the CClub Norcenni Girasole,Florence and I Pini near Rome these take dogs.I have searched for sites using the www.camping.it website, this tells you who takes dogs.I have e.mailed camping oasi and Camping Fusina in the Venice area and they are OK.We are going in May/June  sites are more restricted in peak season. As a general rule cost for dogs is high, cant take them on the beaches and must be on lead.If you do a search on here for "Italy" and "dogs abroad" there are lots of good tips.Good Luck

Terry

Terry

Thanks for that, it looks like we will have to do a little planning, we never bother booking or anything (pre dog days) but it looks like we will now at least need to find some dog friendly sites first.

We will be going for the whole of August so again that will be ore restrictive for sites!
