Has anyone been to Slovenia???? http://www.camping-bled.com/ang/index.html

Our daughter and her boyfriend are wondering where to go next year and this looks rather nice. They are both in the army and like climbing, hiking, watersports etc. Also prefer a quiet site! Know nothing about Slovenia but have read that it is friendly and as yet, fairly unspoilt.

Sooooooooooo, anyone been there?

We have just booked this site for 10 days in August.

From the reports, it would appear to quite a good site and area.

We stayed there in 2004, an absolutely brilliant site. It now takes Camping Cheques, so tends to be quite busy in the off-peak months too. Toiletblock excellent and sparklingly clean, there is a restaurant adjacent to the site. From the site itself you cannot see the lake, but it is literally across the road from the entrance to the site. It is good for walking, we walked up the (very steep!) hill at the side of the site, the views from the top are magnificent. There are waymarked paths around. We actually had bikes with us and cycled around the lake, to the village at the other end. Not that far, but a nice ride.
We also stayed on a campsite in the capital, Ljubljana, which at the time was rather rough, but they were in the process of modernising it at the time, so I would think that would be another really good site now. From there we cycled into the town along cycle tracks. There is a busstop not far from the site entrance as well though.
We also went to Croatia, to Pula and the island of Krk, a resort called Punat. Also absolutely lovely.
What struck us was the cleanliness of the toiletblocks out there. They really seemed to have invested a lot of money in their campsites to attract the tourists.
Would definitely recommend those 2 countries.
Ina.

It all sounds very interesting. How about a Summer Meet somewhere round there? We'll be doing something July/August (don't know what yet)  and could be tempted.

Thanks Ina. Our daughter will be arriving very early tomorrow, after driving from Germany and having a very rough ferry crossing! I promised to find them a nice site, somewhere different and this one looks really good. It's so nice to hear from people who have stayed there though. Soon as she has recovered from her drive home I will show her.

Would love to go myself but OH wont go that far.

Well, they have both had a look and said it looks really nice. They will probably go in early August but have to wait and see if they can book leave at the same time first. If they do go to Slovenia I will get them to write a review I can put up.

We stayed at a hotel on Lake Bled for the Ice Hockey World Champs in 2001.Lovely area caters for German and Italian tourists summer and winter so standards were quite good(2001).Road network is being upgraded but easy access to the capital Lubjiana where there are lots of good eating and drinking places and it is a lovely old city.Bled is a resort area so lots of places for eating, drinking at reasonable prices. It is surrounded by mountains and ski/walking facilities are nearby. They have got a high standard in winter sports, cycling etc .Triglav national park is good.Beer is of fairly good quality ,wine is fair/ok and reasonably priced.Food is OK and portions we had were huge.Lots of english speakers around. The church above the lake is worth a visit(walk) and the lake circuit clears your head.We had day trips to the wineries(of course) and into Croatia(lovely place). You can get maps/guide books for walking/cycling from Stanfords in London the Slovenian tourist board do some guides in english. If you want to know of any details of eating paces we went you can check out the supporters website www.gbsc.co.uk look in the archive section for 2001 and read the diary entries.Great Britain are back in Slovenia for the 2007 World Champs in April so there should be more up to date postings from March onwards on that website

Hi,

We are going to Croatia and Slovenia next month, having just booked ferry for 29th May.  Lake Bled is on our must see list and I will let you know in July our impressions of it.

Yeah lake bohinj everytime for the Ninja but thats even not what it was back in its halcyon days of the 80s when you could camp on its lake shores and hardly see a sole.

In truth both are lovely and ive enjoyed my stays at bled campsite, use to be able to rent fridges use to be hundreds of them all lined up like lockers, dont no if thats still the case.
