OK so it looks like Garda this year.
Where to camp with excellent toilets/showers
Large pitches.
All suggestions welcome.

I have travelled many places in Italy and Lake Garda is a fine place to visit.

First if  you research for camping sites near Garda/Bardolino/Lazize you will see many from small to large and depending on what month you go it will pay to book and reserve you place.

Garda is proberbly the most popular town on the Lake and to get there is very easy as the main autostrada is only a few miles away.

I made a mistake a few years ago by going to the other side of the lake and found that going through tunnels was the order of the day.

use the lake buses as they run like clockwork and to all parts of the lake. this way you ditch the car.

if you are interested I can let you have the route from the UK going through some of the most beautifull country to reach Lago di Garda

I would not expect a large pitch anywhere in Italy, especially not in summer or at Lake Garda.

Last July/Aug we stayed at Camping La Rocca for 5 nights.  The site was packed and very busy, it is split into two halfs at either side of a main road, there is a tunnel underneath.  We were allowed to choose our pitch and chose one as near to the beach as you could get, it was brilliant.  The location was excellent, a ten minute walk on the car free flat sea front promenade to Garda where we could get the ferry to everywhere and a lovely 20 minute flat walk in the other direction to Bardolino.   The pitches are quite small, but we managed with our 20 foot motorhome okay and even had a small tent at the side. There is a tour bus to Verona which stops outside the camp and the opera is not to be missed, you can book tickets before you leave from the official website and they are delivered recorded delivery...if you are interested tell me and i'll let you know where to sit etc etc.
