We are planning to visit Salzburg at the beginning of August and are looking for a site to stay on for about a week. Some of my research has turned up comments of crowding and stretched facilities. We're looking for clean adequate  toilets and showers along with pleasant surroundings and a fairly level pitch. We're a family of 4 but not bothered about pools, pubs, amusements etc on site. Have seen a site at Hallein (just S of Salzburg) - anyone stayed there? All comments (the good, the bad, the ugly) gratefully received!

Many years ago we stayed at a campsite called Camping Nord Sam which is on the norther edge of Salzburg. Found it fine for a stay to visit the lovely City of Salzburg. There is a bus stop outside the site to take the bus the short distance into the City. If you do a Google I am sure they have a website.

Can't help with that particlar site. We stayed just outside Innsbruck and drove to Salzburg for the day. Not too far but well worth it to see this beautiful city.

I stayed on a site on the banks of lake Fuschl. Right next to the village. Salzburg was 20 minutes on the bus and St Gilgen was about an hours walk.

Got me wondering if it's still there now

We stayed on one that had a nice view over the town and was about a 10 minute walk from a bus.  It was called Camping Stadtblick.  Not a huge site, but decent toilets etc and a very popular restaurant.

Hi there,

As a family we have spent time both camping & caravanning in Austria & would highly recommend it.

Salzburg is very nice, as is Innsbruck & Kitzbuhel.

Last year we stayed at Camping Seeblick Toni (Alan Rogers site number AU0100, and I would say that this is the best site we have EVER stayed on in ANY country.

The facilities are top-class, the lake & restauarant are excellent & you are well placed between Innsbruck & Salzburg.

It's not cheap - but it is good.

Hello all

Many thanks for all of the suggestions which I'll look check out. Can you recall how long it took to drive from Camping Seeblick to Salzburg billybhoy999? Any advice about driving routes would also be welcome - particularly any roads to avoid!! We're going by ferry to Rotterdam and have a caravan.

Thanks Anne

It's about an hour with just the car. Innsbruck is approx 15 mins (same motorway, different direction) and Kitzbuhel is about 30 mins on an A-road.

I use sat-nav, but Via Michelin is excellent for printing route maps etc

try: www.viamichelin.com

Thanks for the info Billybhoy999. We used viamichelin last year when we went to the Black Forest and found the maps excellent.

No problem Anne,

Hope you enjoy.

Couple of things that may interest you that we did last year:

1. The Gross Glockner Strass - toll road up to the edge of the highest peak in Austria. Make sure the brakes are working for the hair-pin bends on the way back down!!

2. Another great day out was to the ice plateau at Weibsee, near Uttendorf, using the mountain road, then cable-car, then ski-lift. We went on the 13th of July (my wife's birthday) and it was 22 degrees at the bottom of the road and 5 degrees at the top, so remember a fleece! There is a good restaurant at the top, and you really will feel like you are on top of the world.

I can e-mail you a couple of photos of you like.

Stayed at the small site near the Salzburg Airport. Was not disturbed by noise etc. The facilities were very good and as is usual in Austria a small excellent restaraunt at the entrance. About 10 mins to centre of town by Bus, do not take car as parking very expensive. unfortunately can't find my info for the campsites name.

Regards

Have used a great site situated at Konigsee, not very far from Salzburg and Berchtesgarten. Excellent site, 4 minute walk to the famous freshwater lake (Konigsee) and short drives to Eagles Nest and also worth visiting are the salt-mines, where you get to dress as an early miner and ride the train and underground slides into the mine. I have taken 2 m/cycle tours to the area from my club, and EVERYONE wants to go back again  A trip on the lake well reccomended
