Hi

What's the typical weather down here Jul / Aug ? - the photo's generally show it looking pretty green so I assume you get more rain than Provence and the Med, or is just hot and sunny with big thunderstorms. Last year was a bit of a washour in Jura, so intend heading further south

Would appreciate any feedback on riverside sites near Millau, or Camping Village Marmottes at St Geniez D'Olt

We stayed here twice in Aveyron, at the same site, in the last two weeks of August, 2001 and 2005. The first time it was blisterlingly hot and sunny every day and we were chasing shade all the time. The second time it was ust as warm, but not as sunny every day and we had a couple of thundery showers, but that's normal at the end of August. The camp site, Saint Pal,http://www.campingsaintpal.com/ is directly on the Tarn and has its own river  frontage, with free use of canoes. There's also a bar/café, a good swimming pool and the loo blocks are so clean, you could eat your beakfast off them. It's a relatively small site with no disco or any other kind of entertainment, but the landscape is spectacular.

We arrived on spec the first time, but booked on the second occasion as we were two families together. In 2003 we stayed at a site at Saint Flour about 60 miles up the A75, because we wanted to explore the area, again in the last two weeks of August. Excellent weather, barbecues every evening.

Stayed a week at Val de Cantobre in 2005.
Good kid interaction resulted in them having a ball - weather was pretty poor [aug 3rd week] and pool was small and cold. On the sunday afternoon it was 52F at the campsite.

We had a good holiday there and would recommend it - but we would not go back soon.

Sites at the roundabout at Millau [deux riviere?] seemed easy walking to town centre - which was not without facilities or charm.

Val Cantobre is next to the small river Dourbie and a good way from anything.

been to Tarn twice. first time hot and sunny every day for 2 weeks , last time rain and thunder storms but it was in late June.

for a site that offers nothing but a pitch and leccy away from it all try Camping Le Pont at Boyne , on the route to the gorges, about 6 miles off the N9 north of Millau

back to basics ....
