Interesting question as we plan to stop in Switzerland for a few days before heading into Italy. Switzerland is not a country I have camped in but I assume (hopefully correctly) that connections will either be CEE17 (blue) or continental two pin plugs. I would certainly make sure you have a two pin adaptor. What usually happens where you get any odd connections is that the campsite will generally hire you the right one for the duration of your stay.

Thank you for that. I think it makes it even more certain that campsite reception would have adaptors. Once connected to the caravan we are OK of course!

Hi, as Huw suggests the Swiss have their own 'unique' system but every Swiss site with this type that I have stayed on have a suitable adapter for loan against a refundable deposit. Or you can buy a small adapter to convert the Swiss 3 pin to the German (Schuko) 2 pin for about €5 in most supermarkets.

Craig, I can heavily recommend Camping Jungfrau at Lauterbrunnen (about 8 miles south of Interlaken). The facilities are first class, and the setting is breathtaking.

Just going back to the electric hook-ups; I always keep my main extension cable somewhere where it is easy to hand, so that if it needs to be plugged in by site staff, they can do it when they show me to the pitch. They usually won't wait if you're having to look for it, and so you then have to go and find them when you're ready, and that can get messy if it's getting late in the day.

I'm very envious of your trip; no Alps for us this year.
