For the last few years we have camped around the lake at Biscarosse, there is a huge choice of campsites just type Biscarosse or sanguient into google, you are then just a 10 min drive to the beach at Biscarosse which has great surf. There was a thread just before xmas about a site near the dune du pyla which backed onto the beach, which may suit you, but as you are going late June I'm sure you can just drive down the coast until you spot somewhere you like and find a municipal site, but that stretch of coast line is great enjoy your holiday.
You don't need to go that far. I had a drive over to Nantes to pick up my daughter from the airport a few weeks ago, and drove over to Pornic for some lunch. Just up the coast from there from Pointe de Ste. Gildas, right round to St. Brevin les Pins were some great surfing beaches. There were quite a lot of guys in the water, exceptional sets coming in with solid 4 foot, with the ocassional 5 to 6 foot wave. Glassy, and sun overhead. Cold though! I just wished I'd had mny board and wettie with me. I'd have been in! Very nice area around Pornic, with St. Nazaire not too far away. I'd guess that any west, or SW facing beach or break will get surf.
Lacaneau has always been a fave of mine - watch out for the undertow it can very powerful. You can sometimes hear the break 2k from the sea!
If you can handle Downend Point at Croyde when its working then you're ready for Lacaneau
this is a handy site for some ideas - http://www.wannasurf.com/index.html - but do you really need them? If you are a windsurfer or kite-surfer then its nice to know where you are going
Surfers don't have these problems to the same degree. If you see a nice break, then on with the wetsuit, grab your board and off you go.
Have a great trip and let us know how you got on!

--Lacanau-Ocean is certainly a resort-but if you go up the coast from there there lots of quieter places- Montalivet is nice-but theres no problem parking overnight on beachside car parks anywhere down the coast from the top of the Gironde right down to the Spanish border-yool need a Michelin road atlas--you can also ask the locals-if you can Babelfish French register on here
always gone deep down south, toward messanges, south west from bordeux. Excelent surf, best early september for good breaks throughout the day. quiet, with enough people around in case you get caught out by the undercurrents. lots of good direct beach access sites.
Great sunsets and lovely views, clean beaches, and normaly good weather. Cant wait for this years trip. however it's a good body board for me nowdays.

my brother in law lives in france and chose where he is cause of the surf ( this is a man who comes from Croyde Bay, Devon) they are near a small town called Avrille which is in the Vendee and he said there is a fab campsite only 200 meters from the beach that has the best surf around, here is the link if you want it:
