We've looked at SOOOOOO many campsites now in The Vendee area but this one is the the one we think we'll go for. Has anyone got any reviews or any advice on Les Ecureuils at La Bernerie En Retz? The website looks good and we've had the brochure but there's nothing quite like first hand experience! I've looked at previous posts and lots of people were looking at this one but no one actaully says if they went there in the end.

Thanks very much!

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

found two reprts for you, viz.

1 Very nice friendly campsite, clean swimming pool, close -by village is nice but small, market twice a week with a barbeque and music on Friday, goor restraunts. Beach is busy but enough space for kids to play. Supermakets in Pornic have everything.

2.Campsite is not so big but nice, friendly personel, most spoke some english. Is suitable for kids up to 12, something is organized for them most days, good swimpool  10 minute walk to beach and supermarket. Local village doesn't have much to offer whereas Pornic is lively. Weather not good in 2005, first week too wet  second too hot !! Sea is cold compared to the Med. Lots to see and do in the local area.

Hi

We stayed here last year.  Nice site, very quiet in the evenings so no problems with sleep, has many many Dutch who are all very friendly.

The pool is totally excellent, the small resturant is fine for Pizza etc.  Baguettes and papers etc available in the mornings.

Pornic is really nice (slightly Salcombe esc!)  The town of Berniere was lovely, most nights they has a circus or some village show (all in French but very entertaining for a 7 year old)

The tide goes out quite far and exposes a deal of rocks covered in oysters and loades with shrimps and crabs.  The town also has a man made tidal pool which is much warmer than the sea and of course safe.

Yep, the site was so good we almosr rebooked again this year but thougt that it would be daft given that France is so big.

Showers were OK, my best advice would be to say that you have a large unit as some of the piches were a llittle on the small side, Oh and we found a tap in the middle of the site away from the showers as the French seem to have a strange idea that it is fine to fill up and rinse the bog from the same tap thatyou get your drinking water from!!!!!

There were only 5 Uk familieis there whilst we were on the site in August so if you want to get away from the UK this is most definately the place to go.

Any other questions about the site or area fire away.

Hope thi shelps

Cheers
