Hi, newbie here - just spent the last browsing around the site, very useful indeed! However I can't quite find the info I'm looking for...
I'm going down to the South of France in July, 2 families of 4 both with young kids. We're looking for an overnight stop in a hotel/motel that has 'family rooms' i.e. rooms that will accommodate 4 of us rather than the maximum 'triple room' that Formula 1 seem to do.
I'll be towing a trailer tent, but the other car has a tent and doesn't fancy pitching for one night (nor do I blame him!) Ideally we re looking for somewhere located 5 hours or so from Calais with secure parking.
Any recommendations gladly accepted
Thanks in advance

The Hotel B&B chain does family rooms for 4. You can access their website here and look at other chains in the budget hotels section. The Kyriad chain is in the midprice section and some of their hotels have travel lodge type rooms where a sofa turns into a second double bed for the kids. Most French hotel chains have secure parking behind either a rolling gate or a barrier.
Never had a prob, just gone off the beaten track, found a french country inn, secure parking (ok so sometimes a rustic courtyard with chickens roaming!) and Madam usually comes up with a room for any number, with a super meal as well. Worth a risk, but maybe we have just been lucky. Have done this on spec with 2 families of 4 and come up trumps in August.

We used the b+b chain of hotels last year, we stayed in one near Orleans that had a double room with a little staircase going up to a mezzanine level with twin beds. The kids loved sleeping in their own little room :-)
Been using the BB for year - The bacon and egg is 'pot noodle' quality but there is loads for breakfast.
Kids love watching TV from upstairs - We went out on the balcony to have a beer [or 5] while they settled down watching the end of 'The Birds' - When we came back in the film had ended and some 'quite eyopening' - if not 'jaw dropping' stuff was on. It was the same channel and i don't think the kids had seen it or I doubt they would have been aspleep.
We stay in a Novotel hotel - take 2 adults and 2 children - and the children are free including breakfast. Good accomodation often with outside pool and play area. Often near autoroute and can get a meal in the restaurant and a drink in the bar - which is great!

You want a Novotel mate. Search carefully and you'll get a quad room for around ninety euros sometimes with breakfast in free. Generally, the sooner you book the better the deal you will get. We got ours for 79 this year including breakfasts. We booked in December for August tho!
