Hi Gary. We go every year in the winter to the Algarve. Always leave from Calaise as the cost of ferry to Bilboa is excessive.
We always go via Rouen, down the N138 or if you prefer peage theA28, A10, to St Jean de Luz. Then via Salamanca and Evora on to our site. Both Salamanca and Evora have sites, handy on the way down. Allow at least four days to get to the algarve, five would probably be better, as it's over 1500 miles from Calais.Don't think about staying on airs or sevice areas, as in the peak periods you get a lot of break ins But don't let this put you off, go and enjoy.
Regards.
