Advice please. A friend wants to take her caravan to France for the first time next summer. It'll be on a tight budget so I,ve advised the Dover to Calais crossing. There's 3 kids , oldest will be 11 yrs old there'll be a 18month old and a 3yr old. Because of this she doesn't want to travel for hours, so any suggestions for a good lively site, preferably coastal would be welcome

Hi Have you/they looked at the usual Keycamp/Eurocamp / Canvas brochures (or websites); they tend to feature busier sites, and the brochures also usually give distances from Calais for refference. Obviously once they've picked a site, they just look it up on the web and book direct for best price, in most cases at least.
Of course there are hundreds of other, more comprehensive site finding resources, but it sounds like the above would be worth a try first.

Chateau du Gandspette, 18 miles south east of Calais is supposed to be a nice site although we have never stayed there ourselves. The site is situated in the wooded grounds of a 19th century chateau.
I was also going to recommend La Bien Assise. I've stayed there many times for an overnight either side of a channel crossing and am booked to do the same again this summer.
we've overnighted at Guines as well, nice site - have they thought about Belgium, great site at Ghent - Blaarmeersen and lots along the coast - there's one at De Panne always seems to get good reviews

But itīs all right now, I learned my lesson well.
You see, ya canīt please everyone, so ya got to please yourself

We stopped at La Bien when the twins where 18 months old and three teenagers plus our friends children 5 and 13. We had a lovely time - swimming pool was idea and not too far from the beach - about 10-15 minutes i think. You can walk into the village. This year we are tring chateau drancourt about hours drive from ferry.
