Hi, New to site and camping! but..we are braving a trip to la Yole campsite in August. We are driving from Calais - st jean de- monts and as many of you have already done it...what is the best way to stop over? We have no caravan so are B&B's easy to come by? are they cheap?? or any other suggestions are most welcome!! The cheaper the better as did not account for toll costs, fuel etc..oops!

Hi Michelle, I dont know how often you want to stop ...... we work at a campsite in the southern Loire, which has timber cabins available for overnight ( or longer ) stopovers. Have a look at the website www.theloirvalley.com for more details.

Formule1 is the cheapest with comfortable rooms for 3 people for approx £20 a night, although no air conditioning. Most have secure gated parking.

You can book hotels on all these sites in English, and most of them are easy to find located near to motorways/trunk routes, ideal for stopovers. Many are also located near to supermarkets, leisure parks, fast food outlets or some other kind of restaurant/eatery where you can get a meal, although not necessarily on a sunday evening. Take bottled water to drink as tap water in the hotel can taste foul, and the drink machine in the lobby tries to make up for the low cost of the rooms!

I can also recommend the above chains! Breakfast can also be thrown in for a couple of quid more (hotel BB or Village are the nicest if I remember correctly- spent lot of nights couple of years ago on motorcycle tour round Europe that was a bit wet so camping was few and far between until we hit the Southern France region.

That makes it much easier to find somewhere - the 'standard' room in the cheap and cheerful hotels is usually for 3 - Its those with 2 or more kids who have to book the rarer family rooms. If you are travelling at weekend in the holidays I would still book a room.
