A couple of years ago we stayed at camping Du Bois De Boulogne - There was a bus you could get just outside the gates into Paris just for the campers. When we got off, everybody rushed to the metro but we, after a lot of gesticulating and pointing with a nice french lady who showed us the direction to take, set off walking and it only took about 15 minutes to get to the Arch d'Triomphe. We then jumped on one of the open top buses which took us all round the sights of Paris. You could get off at any stop and then jump back on another and the ticket lasted for 2 days. So you could visit EVERYTHING if you started early enough!
