A colleague of mine (white) and his wife (black) go camping regularly with their 2 children.  They have a trailer tent & love it.

We saw a black family at Beechwood Grange last week.  I also met a black man with a white wife in France some years ago who strangely enough said his ancestors came from County Durham, his surname also happened to be Durham.

you will see very few Black families or chinese/Asian etc for that matter just as you see none if any Fishing.

have not yet found the reason for it yet as in my sport/pastime (yes I know many wont agree with it) of Hunting. and yet when I go overseas I spend lots of time with Black folk fishing and Indian in the bush/jungle. once asked a Black Guy who fishes regular at Eastbourne and he knows of none also.

shocking as it is it must be that they are made to feel unwelcome. about time it changed. and folk moved away from the 1960s.

Although I've seen black families having picnics in the countryside I've never yet seen any actually camping, though I did once see a mixed race family on one site I stayed at. I've often wondered if camping is something that coloured families as a whole just don't do, and maybe any mixed race families who camp do so because it's something the white member has previously done.

We were pitched next to a very nice mixed race family at Broadlands CC site last year, he was Black, his wife of Asian/Chinese origins and their brood of children from theirs and previous relationships.

They were very friendly and came from north London, we swoped notes and information about the area, and told them about the regs for launcing their inflateable boat, and which parts would be safe for such a small boat given the strong tides in some areas.  they had a nice 6berth twin axel van and he seamed very knowledgeable in the electronics field, and had set up several Tvs and playstations around the van all run via a satalite dish.

The only other mixed race families we have come across whilst out on sites have been white men with their Asian partners/wives, and very much it seams that the ladies are a lot younger than the gents, probably more so than the 16yr age gap there is between me and my hubby.

If you include the floating caravans of the Broads lol, we do get quite a few Japanese families hiring them out, along with a fair few Americans who are often experianced boaters and some even owners, back home, and have just come over to the Uk to try life afloat on the waterways over here.

I managed to talk my friend into coming camping last year (last week of the season).

We had a blast and she loved it, wants to do it again and again. I had tried for years to talk her into it. Her reason that she had not was as she felt that it wasn't a person of colours pastime?  She even googled it and there are newspaper features on it (along with bowling which we do often).she showed me these as an excuse for about 6 months.

Her husband often fishes - most weekends in the season along with one of their sons my daughter goes with them. She was pleasantly suprised at how friendly the camping experience was. Although found it very amusing at some peoples reaction to her coming out of the tent/going into the loo blocks.( Open mouthed).

I do also know a few other families of colour that camp.....

Hey,if your wife and you enjoy caravanning , what does it matter. just go enjoy yourselves.

A  friendly coloured "chap" and his better half were pitched near us at Easter on the CC site at Woolacombe.

Had a few chats with him, came from Brum not been caravanning that long.

Have seen the odd one over the years, don,t know why there are not more.

Most of the people we camp with are black.

Right enough, they start off white but as I am hopeless with the BBQ, everyone ends up black.
