Sad for those who have lost their jobs, but the Mexborough site ( that came with an acquisition didn`t it, but can`t remember who they bought?) never really made sense. Not big enough for a stand alone business, and too close to Hull which made it an easy target really.

Have also read that new motorhomes are subject to a 700% increase in road tax, with electric vehicles and emissions is the caravan and motorhome industry doomed
The aligning of the VED, first year and ongoing for another 5, with that levied on over £40,000 cars, now their emission values have to be included, has wrought just the same damage on MH builders and retailers as it has for the car industry, other than the mega expensive sector.
Its ramifications on UK sales and thus employment should have been obvious in both cases, well obvious to anyone who stops for a few seconds to consider it.

No doubt we will see road tax for your usual caravan tower going up and up, but other than that I cant think what else they could do, other than banning ICE vehicles from the roads permanently, and I think we are a long way from that.
As for motorhomes, I think those will be a nice easy target for the government, and I agree, it could harm the motorhome market hugely. However that would only apply to new motorhomes, so potentially we may see the second hand motorhome market increasing.
The higher road tax on vehicles costing over £40k is basically a wealth tax, surely brought in to make up for falling revenue from the emissions based system.
Most motorhomes will not do the mileage that the vans on which they are based will, but I guess the base commercial is a bit cheaper.
I assume £40 k plus electric and hybrids are taxed the same.
Perhaps the motorhome companies need to bring out basic sub £ 40K models. Difficult I know as most new are above that price.

had a look at some brand new swift motorhomes last July ...The standard of manufacture was appalling........Even the salesman made a comment about the poor quality ....Didnt Lunar have issues with poor manufacturing standards ( peed off staff ??) before they went under ???
