I have bought a 2009 Coachman Amera and I have noticed that there is no reversing lights. Each rear light pod has three lights, running light, brake light and indicator light. Is this correct. I ask this because when I was away in France I had to reverse back out of a bay at a motorway toll booth. This happened twice and the wife had to stop traffic coming behind me and redirect them to other booths.
Reversing lights are not mandatory. We bought a new Bailey in 2009 and that had two rear fogs but no reversing lights. So as they were separate round Jokon lamps, I removed the near side fog and replaced it with a reversing lamp, splicing into the wiring underside of the caravan to find the unused reversing wire. Then extended this up inside to rear panel to the new lamp fitted. Having one fog light is mandatory so just keeping one was still legal.

Some cars only have one reversing light. When I was little, I used to think they were for the driver seeing behind in the dark, but of course they’re to alert vehicles behind (like brake lights do). I guess caravans are so rarely reversing on the public highway (toll booths aside) that they’re not justified?
Even some big vehicles with reversing lights will require a banksman (or traffic marshal) behind for safety reasons, to make sure there’s no person / vehicle / object / ditch behind, that the driver can’t see.
Thanks lads . Nice to know that there wasn’t something missing. I’ll now consider installing a revering light as I think it is a safety issue even on a caravan. How I’ll do it hasvyet to be determined.
