I recently wanted something for my caravan and, as I was passing, called in at the dealers where I bought our caravan. They are GT Towing near Hatfield. I thought it was strange as I pulled in, to find there wasn't a single caravan on display. When I went into their accessory shop there was hardly anything left on the shelves so I asked the man who I had always taken to be the owner and he said that they had sold their last caravan that morning. He was retiring, but the company would continue, but only hiring and selling trailers from now on.

They seem to be dropping like flies. The Caravan Company at Finedon where we bought our van has gone, as the owner has retired. It would seem that they are getting offers that they can't refuse from building developers. There will only be a few left at this rate.

I don't think it's developers with GT Towing as their trailer business is still keeping going, but it's probably developers in many other cases. The only other dealer I know of within a 30 mile radius of me is MG caravans in Royston. They used to be in Hertford.

Some caravanning friends of ours said that Robinsons Caravans in Worksop had closed down in March this year and gone into administration.

We bought our caravan from Dumfries Caravan Centre who have now closed so the warrenty is now useless

-------------
We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.

Hopefully you will be able to find someone to do any warranty work. A warranty is with the manufacturer, not the dealer. The problem is getting a workshop to the work, as manufacturers don't pay enough.

It was a ten year water ingress warranty. No local dealer is interested as they don't get paid enough. Elddis suggested two dealers nearly 200 miles away. That would make any repair expensive.

We have the same only Coachman. We have found a workshop, Nene Court in Northamptonshire. Don't know if that's any good for you.

Like everything else, people buying on-line !!! Amazon are killing retailers, and when they have succeeded, just watch the on-line prices go through the roof, as there will be no competition !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The likes of Amazon might kill off shops and the like, but there isn't just one retailer online. There will always be competition online just as there is in the physical world of retailing.

Sadly, yes, we [GT Towing] are closing the caravan side of our business. Unfortunately, a sheer and increasing lack of demand, particularly in caravan sales, has meant that very soon it would not have been viable or sustainable.

We're in a very fortunate position that our business does not rely solely on the sales of caravans, and this transition has been in the making for a number of years.

By making the decision we have made, it's meant that we're able to expand the other ever growing areas of our business, which do include;

Sales, service, repair & hire of trailers Trailers

Towbar fitting Towbar Fitting

Roof racks, roof boxes, roof tents, bike racks & more GT Towing Adventure

Commercial vehicle solutions GT Towing Commercial

We will still stock the very essential accessories for caravans, so if you need your toilet fluid, your gas, or other travel essentials, our main shop & website will be stocked and ready.

We look forward to welcoming you all again some time soon in the future!

Is there a road sign for "beware of low flying caravans"?
