Has anyone tried to stop at Junction 38 Truckstop with a caravan? It is just before Tebay and run by the same people who run Tebay. We always use Tebay so it is disappointing to hear that they have taken away the caravan parking. I have emailed them to ask if Caravans can use the J38 Truckstop as it might be a viable alternative.

Used Tebay northbound for the first time in Aug this year, I was quite impressed with the ease of caravan parking, although as said it was a motely selection of vehicles that shouldn't have been in the bays, so sad to hear it's gone! .... where do the HGVs go then?
The services themselves were lovely, and the food excellent, even a inside seating area that accepted dogs, BUT I still need to park the caravan, and if that's now not catered for or difficult, then that particular services will be scrubbed from my potential stopping points!

There is Truck Haven, just north of Carnforth, if you come off at J35 of the M6.
Plenty of free parking, (just validate your token at reception when leaving.
It is set up for lorries, so you do need to stop you vehicle, and climb a few steps to insert the token, so not so good if you aren't nimble.
Good basic grub and reasonably priced. We regularly use it if travelling north.

After having a couple of fraught parking adventures with the caravan at Tebay North I vowed never to go back in there unless without the caravan.
And I never have.
Tebay Southbound is a different parking experience altogether. The caravan / motorhome parking area is really good to stop at, and a great place to walk the dogs. If not the furthest point from the facilities, from which you will get completely soaked if it's raining. Trust me, I know.

Tebay Services have applied for planning permission to redevelop both northbound and southbound sites, including increased parking areas.
This may explain the current parking difficulties.

When I visited in Aug, there wasn't any specific caravan parking area at the moment, we (me and a number of other caravans and MHs) were just mixed in with the HGVs/coaches in the oversize bays outside the main buildings, as the signage directs you to. So not necessarily any worse after the redevelopment.
Be nice if there were to be a specific caravan parking area, but that is pretty rare on a MSA, usually directed into HGV parking area on most.
At least the 'large vehicle' parking area was not as squalid as most MSA's, and was not remote from the facilities. New plans seem to shift it to a slightly more remote area though, hopefully it will remain at the same high standard as it was previously.
The caravan site, is all part of the services complex (same owners) and shared and accessible by north and southbound traffic. Nothing to do with 'comfort stop' parking as such. Not my idea of a holiday destination, but pretty convenient for breaking a long journey with a proper overnight stop with facilities (unlike parking in service area bays!).

The people who own Tebay services also own Gloucester services and the parking for caravans at both Gloucester Northbound and Gloucester Southbound is excellent. Hopefully in the redevelopment, they will make it as good as Gloucester.
